Intel to Roll Out 45nm Penryn Processors This Year
Marking the next step in Intel’s “tick-tock” product strategy and cadence to deliver a new process technology with an enhanced microarchitecture or entirely new microarchitecture every year, Intel Corporation will begin producing its next-generation Penryn family of processors in the second half of this year. These new processors benefit from enhancements to the Intel(R) Core(TM) microarchitecture and also Intel’s industry-leading 45nm Hi-k process technology with its hafnium-based high-K + metal gate transistor design, which results in higher performance and more energy-efficient processors.

Altium Designer Offers Direct Import of FPGA Cores
Altium Limited (ASX: ALU), announced that it has added support for the direct import of FPGA cores generated by third-party applications to its Altium Designer unified electronic product development system. This new tool makes the creation and import of highlyoptimized, device-specific custom FPGA cores from device vendor tools such as Xilinx’s Core Generator and Altera’s Megafunction Wizard easy and efficient and significantly enhances the ability of FPGA developers to take full advantage of the high-level design capabilities of Altium Designer to accelerate system development.

Atmel Unveils 125-kHz ATA2270-EK1 RFID Evaluation Kit
Atmel(R) (Nasdaq: ATML) announced the availability of the ATA2270-EK1125-kHz RFID demo kit. This new kit enables the evaluation and prototyping of Atmel’s wide portfolio of LF IDIC(R)s, which are used in a broad range of RFID applications including access control, industrial automation, loyalty cards, anti-counterfeiting, and animal identification. Hikvision to Integrate ObjectVideo, TI Technology into Video Products
ObjectVideo, Inc., the leader in intelligent video, and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced a strategic win with Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, the leading provider of video surveillance products in China. ST Licenses MIPS’ 64-bit Architecture
MIPS Technologies, Inc. Synopsys, Arm Improve Productivity for Mobile, Consumer Applications
Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, and ARM [(LSE: ARM; (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], announced the immediate availability of a fully automated implementation flow enabled by Synopsys IC Compiler for high-performance and low-power applications. The Galaxy(TM) Design Platform RTL-to-GDSII flow for the synthesizable ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-A8 processor includes DC Topographical technology, the DFT MAX solution and the latest physical design technology available in IC Compiler. This portable Synopsys flow, along with the ARM processor and physical IP, delivers a 5-10x improvement in designer productivity compared to the original optimized, semi-custom approach. The flow has also delivered more than 1000 DMIPS at 500MHz performance in a 65-nanometer (nm) low-power process technology and is capable of achieving over 1700 DMIPS at 850MHz for advanced consumer applications when targeted at high-performance 65-nm process technologies.

SiRF, Motorola to Unify Common APIs for Location-Enabled Services
SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRF) announced an agreement with Motorola that will further enable the global developer community to harness the power of location for application development. Through this agreement, Motorola and SiRF will harmonize their respective location-enabling APIs, making it possible for location applications to be written once, deployed across a wide range of handsets and fully integrated with a mobile device’s native applications — from calling, messaging and browsing to address books, calendars and email.

Fujitsu Unveils Driver-Assistance FlexRay Controller
Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) introduced the FlexRay(TM) controller, the MB91F465XA. Designed for driver-assistance applications, the MB91F465XA is built around a Fujitsu FR 70 32-bit CPU, with an internal clock speed of 100MHz and voltage range of 3.0V to 5.5V. Based on the E-Ray core licensed from Robert Bosch GmbH, the device uses VHDL code certified by TUV Nord, supports 2-channel and FIFO operations, and supports 218 different identifiers by providing more than 8kBytes of message buffer memory.

TCS, Tata Sell Holding in SITEL India
SITEL India was a joint venture between Tata Group and Sitel, formed in 2000, with both parties holding 50% of the equity. TCS, which holds 40% stake and Tata International Limited, which holds a 10 per cent stake, have agreed to sell their respective stake in the JV.
