Concurrent VX 407/04x Single Board Computer

Concurrent Technologies’ VX 407/04x is an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor based VME/VXS single board computer (SBC). The VX 407/04x uses the latest mobile dual core processor from the Intel(R) embedded roadmap, the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor, giving an even greater improvement in measured performance/watt. The VX 407/04x can access up to 4 Gbytes DDR2-667 soldered SDRAM at up to 10.6 Gbytes/s.

Concurrent VME/VXS VX 407/04x SBC with Intel Core 2 DuoThe VXS switched serial standard – VITA 41.3 (1000Mbps baseband IEEE802.3) – is optionally supported to provide fast data transfer between other compatible boards in the system. This combination of high performance data processing and a wealth of I/O ensure that the boards are ideal for intensive computing applications within the defence, security, telemetry, industrial control, scientific, and aerospace markets.

The VX 407/04x board supports the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor (in a socket) with 4 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores). By using appropriate operating systems and applications software, a computing performance increase of at least twice an Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor is achievable, and yet the Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 2.16 GHz dual core processor is 34W versus 27W TDP for the single core 2.0 GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 760 (with 2 Mbytes L2 cache). The Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express chipset and Intel(R) ICH7-M are used to complement the processor to achieve a low power, yet high performance core design.

To enable easy fast transfer of data between the VX 407/04x board and other components in the system there are two networking options available: dual 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet interfaces (via P2) or an optional VITA 41.3 interface (via VXS P0) giving dual 1000Mbps baseband IEEE 802.3 serial links onto a VXS backplane fabric. For VXS users, Concurrent Technologies has a VXS VITA 41.3 (1000Mbps baseband IEEE802.3) switched serial board available.

A wide range of I/O is available: the front panel supports a 64-bit 66MHz PMC (with XMC) and a third 10/100/1000Mps Ethernet interface, while both the front and rear panels support graphics, keyboard and mouse interfaces plus up to 5 USB 2.0 and 2 RS-232/422 interfaces. The remaining rear panel interfaces provided are EIDE, SATA150, stereo audio line in/out and 3.5-inch floppy disk. Other features included are a watchdog timer, long duration timer, LAN boot firmware and options for an onboard 2.5-inch EIDE hard disk drive or dual CompactFlash(TM) EIDE storage. Alternatively, there is provision to provide two 64-bit 66MHz PMC sites, with front and rear I/O, by using an optional secondary PMC carrier board.

For ease of integration, the VX 407/04x family of boards support many of today’s leading operating systems, including Linux(R), Windows(R) 2000, Windows(R) XP Embedded, Windows(R) XP, VxWorks(R) and QNX(R).
