Khronos Finalizes OpenGL ES 2.0 Specs
The Khronos(TM) Group announced that it has unanimously ratified and publicly released the finalized OpenGL(R) ES 2.0 specification for programmable 3D graphics that will significantly boost the functionality, flexibility and visual realism offered by a wide range of embedded and mobile devices. OpenGL ES 2.0 complements the widely deployed OpenGL ES 1.1 standard for fixed function graphics by defining the OpenGL ES Shading Language for programming vertex and fragment shaders and integrating it with a streamlined OpenGL ES 1.1-derived API.

Carbon’s Hardware Models Plugs into CoWare Platform Architect
Carbon Design Systems, the leading supplier of electronic system-level (ESL) tools for the automatic creation, validation, and deployment of virtual hardware models, announced that its models are now plug-and-play with the Platform Architect design environment from CoWare(R), the leading supplier of platform-driven ESL design software and services. NI Speeds Time to Measurement with New IO Modules
National Instruments announced that it has nearly tripled the number of I/O modules available for NI CompactDAQ, adding several new key measurements and capabilities to the USB-based modular data acquisition system. Additionally, every NI CompactDAQ chassis is shipped with the new National Instruments LabVIEW SignalExpress data-logging software, providing quick acquisition, analysis and presentation of data in an interactive, nonprogramming environment. Toshiba Reduces LCD TV Development Time with Spartan-3E FPGAs
Xilinx Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world’s leading provider of programmable logic solutions, announced that Toshiba Corporation has selected Xilinx low-cost, high-volume Spartan(TM)-3E field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for its LCD television models WLT68 and WL68 in the REGZA(TM) series. Toshiba commercialized the WLT68 and WL68 as high-end models for the European and Asian markets, including China.

Stretch Licenses Tensilica Xtensa LX Processor, HiFi 2 Audio Engine
Tensilica, Inc. and Stretch(R) Inc. announced that Stretch of Sunnyvale, California, USA, has licensed Tensilica’s Xtensa(R) LX processor and HiFi 2 Audio Engine for use in their next-generation Software Configurable Processor. The Stretch S6000 family of processors is targeted towards audio/video applications and achieves unrivaled video processing performance using a dual issue, VLIW configuration of the Xtensa LX processor coupled with the second generation of Stretch’s Instruction Set Extension Fabric (ISEF).

Ittiam Selects Altera’s Stratix II FPGAs
Altera Corporation announced that Ittiam Systems, a Bangalore-based company specializing in digital signal processing (DSP) systems, has selected the industry-leading Stratix(R) II FPGA family to develop and deliver the Trinity multi-format high-definition video decoder (MFVDEC) soft intellectual property (IP) core. This IP core is designed for digital TV, high-definition (HD) DVD, HD IPTV and HD set-top-box solutions. Ittiam selected Altera’s Stratix II FPGA family for its high density, high performance and superior signal integrity.
