AMD Offers New Products for Embedded Systems
AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced the next step in the evolution of its embedded business—including the addition of Second-Generation AMD Opteron(TM) processors and AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 dual-core processors to the AMD64 Longevity Program, plus the release of the new AMD Geode(TM) LX900@1.5W processor. With a commitment to lowering customers’ time to market, AMD is also offering several new Reference Design Kits (RDKs). Spanning high-end to very low power embedded markets, these new AMD solutions are part of a continued focus on delivering a stable, consistent, high-performance architecture for embedded designers.

TI DaVinci SDK for Windows Embedded CE
To make DaVinci(TM) technology accessible to an ever increasing base of digital video developers, Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE: TXN) (TI) is releasing a Software Development Kit (SDK) based on DaVinci technology for use with the Windows(R) Embedded CE operating system. This SDK is specifically designed for use with the TMS320DM6443 and TMS320DM6446 system-on-chip (SoC) processors based on DaVinci technology. The SDK will empower developers who prefer the Windows Embedded operating system to now easily access TI’s proven silicon and software for digital video applications.

Lauterbach TRACE32 Debugger Supports Express Logic ThreadX RTOS

Microchip Debuts PIC16F882 PIC Microcontrollers
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced the PIC16F882—the lowest-cost member of Microchip’s 28- and 40/44-pin PIC18F88X family of microcontrollers, for use in a wide range of applications. The PIC16F882 provides design engineers with the option to migrate to a lower-cost family member, as their code development stabilizes. In turn, all five members of the PIC16F88X family maintain compatibility with other 28/40-pin PIC(R) Microcontrollers for easy migration, while providing a host of new features designed to save users time and money—both during and after their design cycle. CoDeSys SoftPLC Partitions SYSGO PikeOS
SYSGO, the global supplier of highly reliable device software, has announced the integration of CoDeSys from 3S ­ Smart Software Solutions as a new partition type for SYSGO’s real-time separation microkernel PikeOS. CoDeSys is a leading hardware-independent programming system for creating industrial controller applications, often called PLCs. It is used by more than 200 manufacturers of components and systems for the automation industry. VMETRO Supports Xilinx Virtex-5 SXT FPGA Platform
VMETRO announced support for the new Xilinx [NASDAQ: XLNX] Virtex(TM)-5 SXT FPGA platform, optimized for high-performance DSP. VMETRO is developing a range of Virtex-5 FPGA-based products suitable for a number of applications including fiber-optic boards, analog I/O modules and array processing cards based on open standard PMC, XMC, VPX and VXS form-factors. Since the Virtex-5 SXT and LXT devices share a compatible footprint and FPGA package size, while supporting high-bandwidth, multi-gigabit serial transceivers, VMETRO’s customers will be able to choose between maximum DSP support and maximum logic gates in a single board design. Tensilica Licenses 330HiFi Audio Processor Core to Penstar
Tensilica(R), Inc. announced that Penstar Technology has licensed Tensilica’s Diamond Standard 330HiFi Audio Processor core for use in a new SOC (System On Chip) design for cellular phones and personal media players (PMPs) conforming to China’s emerging Audio Video coding Standard (AVS). Penstar intends to be the first Chinese company to offer a low power chip that is fully compliant with AVS, following the successful release of its DS-1000 IC product, which is an AVS video decoder IC supporting both standard and high definition video applications for digital TV and IPTV (Internet Protocol TV). Penstar will use the Diamond Standard 330HiFi Audio Processor for both the audio and control functions in the SOC.

VMETRO Developing VPX VITA 46 Products

ASUSTeK Computer Selects Opera Mobile Browser
Opera Software announced that the Opera browser for mobile phones has been selected by ASUSTeK Computer Inc., a leading provider of 3C (computers, communications and consumer electronics) total solutions, to bring the Web to the company’s Vodafone deliveries. Opera 8.65 for Mobile will be initially integrated on the V1210 for Vodafone International or the VDA IV for Vodafone Germany.
