ZiLOG Launches eZ80Acclaim! 8-bit Microcontrollers
ZiLOG(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: ZILG), a leading provider of integrated Flash microcontroller (MCUs) universal remote control and ARM-based solutions, introduced a new member of its award-winning eZ80Acclaim!(R) family of 8-bit MCUs, an enhanced MCU designed for use in Internet/Intranet-based networking and communications applications. Available in LQFP and BGA packages, ZiLOG’s new offering is designated the eZ80F91AZA50 (LQFP) or eZ80F91NAA50 (BGA) depending on packaging type. This latest member of the eZ80Acclaim! family, features increased registers for better I/O performance, a modified power controller for lower power consumption and updated Flash memory functionality to reduce code size and speed time-to-market.

Virtex-5 Study Provides Insights into Xilinx Dual-Foundry Strategy
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) announced that Semiconductor Insights (ON, Canada) has completed an in-depth technical study of samples of the Xilinx 65-nm XC5VLX50 Virtex(TM)-5 FPGA, manufactured by foundry partners Toshiba and UMC. Based upon structural analyses, Semiconductor Insights has concluded that 65-nm devices manufactured by either foundry meet high-performance Virtex-5 specifications.

Micron Debuts Image Sensors for Camera Phones

Micron’s new camera phone sensors were developed using a tiny 1.75-micron pixel design and range in resolution from 5-, 3- and 1.3-megapixel. One of the first applications processors based on the ARM11(TM) core to support the Windows Mobile 6 operating system (OS), Freescale’s BSP is designed to provide a simple and efficient migration path for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with devices running previous versions of Windows Mobile.

Palm Demonstrates Bluetooth Common Access Card Solution to Army

Marvell PXA Processors Support Windows Mobile 6

TI Creates First 720p HD Video Playback for Mobile Phones
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) demonstrated the industry’s first application processor to playback 720p high-definition (HD) video for high-end mobile phones at the 3GSM World Congress. The OMAP3430 solution is also the first application processor to integrate the newly-defined OpenGL ES(R) 2.0 graphic standard, bringing “life-like” 3D graphics to the handset and creating a mobile gaming experience comparable to today’s handheld gaming devices. In addition, TI introduced two new members of the scalable OMAP(TM) 3 processor family that will help handset manufacturers provide smartphones with robust multimedia functionality at a lower cost.

TI LoCosto ULC Enables Low-Cost Color MP3 Camera Phones
New subscriber rates are experiencing meteoric growth in emerging markets worldwide, with demand for affordable handsets continuing to rise. Addressing this phenomenon at a press conference at 3GSM World Congress, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) announced its third generation GSM solution for the ultra low-cost handset market, specifically designed to enhance the user experience with added features and improvements.
