Trolltech, VirtualLogix Enable Linux for Mass Market Feature Phones
In a move to speed the entry of Linux into the mobile phone mass market, Trolltech (OSE: TROLL) and VirtualLogix have integrated Trolltech’s Qtopia platform for Linux handsets and VirtualLogix’s VLX software on a single-core processor. Trolltech(R), the company that makes software faster to build and easier to use, and VirtualLogix(TM), the Real-Time Virtualization(TM), company have formed a partnership, and will be demonstrating the single-core processor form-factor at 3GSM.

DSM Computer Introduces Compact 19-inch Industrial PC with PCI Express
The 96M1584D 2 U industrial computer from DSM Computer’s 19-inch Infinity(R) range is now available in PCI Express(TM) version. In accordance with the PICMG 1.3 standard, the backplane provides one PCI Express(TM) x1 slot, one PCI Express(TM) x16 slot and two PCI slots. This now enables even the new, fast graphics cards to be integrated into innovative industrial systems.

Sequence Debuts SMMART Macro Modeling using Advanced Region Technique
Sequence Design, EDA’s power-aware SoC design technology leader, announced a range of new features for CoolTime and CoolPower, including breakthrough SMMART (Sequence Macro Modeling using Advanced Region Technique) technology for advanced modeling of memories and other macros for SoC dynamic voltage-drop analysis. SMMART provides highly accurate representations of macros for chip-level analysis, with no capacity limitations.

NI Updates SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW
National Instruments (Nasdaq:NATI) announced the latest version of the NI SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW, the revolutionary software that empowers machine builders and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to create customized motion controllers using software and deploy them for any NI hardware platform. OEMs and machine builders can use a range of pre-built motion functions and control algorithms to quickly create motion controllers based on specific application requirements as well as price and performance needs. Mentor Graphics Releases Board Station XE Design Flow
Mentor Graphics Corporation, the market leader in printed circuit board (PCB) design software, announced the release of Board Station(R) XE, the next generation version of its Board Station design flow for large, enterprise customers. Tensilica(R), Inc. and AM3D A/S announced that AM3D’s Zirene(R) Audio Enhancement and Diesel Power Mobile(TM) 3D Audio products are now available for Tensilica’s HiFi 2 Audio Engine and Diamond Standard 330HiFi processor core. Lattice to Showcase LatticeECP2M FPGAs, PCI Express Solutions
Lattice Semiconductor (NASDAQ: LSCC) announced it will demonstrate programmable PCI Express design solutions using its LatticeECP2M(TM) FPGA development board at the Embedded World Conference and Exhibition, February 13-15, in Nürnberg, Germany. Catalyst Systems Corporation Changes Name to OpenMake Software

Major Open Standard Architectures Account for 65% of COM Modules
The major open standard architectures are dominating the Computer-On-Modules (COMs) market, according to VDC’s recently released third volume of its Global Market Analysis of Merchant Computer Boards for Embedded & Real-Time Applications. Based on the data from this latest edition of the study, the major open standard architectures – which include ETX, COM Express, DIMM-PC, and SOM-144 – were responsible for 65% of the total COM modules market in 2005. This percentage is expected to increase to 70% in 2007, taking five percentage points of market share away from proprietary architectures.

Microchip’s IEEE 802.15.4 Radio, PIC18 MCU Combo is ZigBee Compliant
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced that it has achieved the ZigBee(TM) Compliant Platform designation from the National Testing Service and the ZigBee Alliance, for the combination of its MRF24J40 IEEE 802.15.4 RF transceiver and the PIC18 family of high-end 8-bit Flash microcontrollers. Additionally, Microchip offers compliant development tools and compliant source code for its royalty-free, no-cost license ZigBee(TM) protocol stack. The ZigBee Compliant Platform designation means that design engineers can use Microchip’s semiconductors to build products that will interoperate over a ZigBee protocol wireless network.
