  • GE Acquires Smiths Aerospace
    General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) announced that it agreed to purchase Smiths Aerospace, a U.K.-based supplier of integrated systems for aircraft manufacturers and components for engine builders, for $4.8 billion in cash. The deal is subject to approval by Smiths Group shareowners as well as customary regulatory reviews.
  • Xilinx ISE 9.1i Slashes FPGA Design Cycles
    Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) introduced its latest 9.1i release of the industry’s most widely-used Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE(TM)) design suite optimized to address today’s leading design challenges: timing closure, productivity and power. In addition to 2.5X faster runtimes, ISE 9.1i includes new SmartCompile technology which improves run times by up to an additional 6X while maintaining exact design preservation of unchanged logic.
  • Latest TI DaVinci Processor Drives Portable Digital Video Applications
    Continuing to fuel the digital video revolution, Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) (TI) announced the sampling of the TMS320DM6441 system-on-chip (SoC) based on DaVinci(TM) technology. Additional DaVinci software and development tools for the DM6441 make it possible to deliver high-quality video combined with power saving modes for portable audio and video applications, including portable media players (PMPs), consumer video security devices, medical devices, data terminals, IP netcams, automotive/in-flight entertainment systems and other digital audio and video applications.
  • Actel Libero IDE Improves Design Flow for IGLOO FPGAs, Fusion PSCs
    Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) announced that the latest version of the Actel Libero(TM) Integrated Design Environment (IDE) offers full support for Actel’s newest flash-based field-programmable gate array (FPGA) solutions, the low-power IGLOO(TM) family. The Libero IDE 7.3 also provides new easy-to-use features that will aid designers utilizing the mixed-signal Actel Fusion(TM) Programmable System Chip (PSC) and low-cost ProASIC3/E families.
  • Wavesat Rolls Out 3.3-3.5GHz WiMAX Mini-PCI Reference Design

  • Mentor Graphics Expands Partnership with Actel
    Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) and Actel Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTL) announced the signing of a new OEM agreement between the two companies, expanding the companies’ existing technology and marketing partnership. With this agreement, Actel will provide the rich feature set of Precision(R) Synthesis, Actel-edition, as part of the new Libero(R) Integrated Development Environment (IDE) 7.3 Web download product bundle. In addition, Actel and Mentor Graphics will continue to cooperate to further improve tool integration, thereby increasing productivity and enhancing customer design success and quality of results (QoR).
  • Pentek Introduces Conduction-Cooled PMC/XMC Transceiver Module
    Pentek, Inc., one of the pioneers of VME board-level technology, released its Model 7141-703 PMC/XMC module. It features two 14-bit, 125 MHz A/Ds and a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro field programmable gate array (FPGA), and it is configured as a ruggedized module fully compliant with the ANSI/VITA 20 conduction-cooling specification and ANSI/VITA 42 XMC specification. This module is compatible with both cPCI and VME baseboards.

    Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. The new management software, which can be integrated with existing HA middleware software, makes it easy to Monitor, Manage and Maintain (M3) multiple AdvancedMC blades residing in multiple MicroTCA chassis.
  • VMETRO Announces Rugged 6U VME, CompactPCI VMDRIVE Solid State Drive
    VMETRO, Inc. in Houston TX introduced a solid state drive for 6U VME and CompactPCI systems, the VMDRIVE. Designed to meet demanding military and aerospace applications, the VMDRIVE deploys 80GB solid state storage in rugged conduction-cooled or commercial air-cooled environments. The VMDRIVE’s dual channel 2Gbps fibre channel interfaces store data up to 70 MegaBytes per second. The dual fibre channel ports allow the VMDRIVE to connect to Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (FC SAN) for use in data recording applications.
  • VMETRO Introduces Vortex M6000 720 MB/s VXS Data Recorder
    VMETRO expanded it’s Vortex range of high-speed data recording solutions with the introduction of the Vortex M6000 VME/VXS recorder. Supporting dual 4 Gb/s or quad 2Gb/s Fibre Channel ports, this high speed recorder is able to achieve 720MB/s recording performance in a single 6U VXS (VITA-41) slot.   • VMETRO Debuts Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA Based ADC with Xilinx Dual Channels
    VMETRO announced the PMC-FPGA05-ADC1, a Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) Virtex(TM)-5 LX110 FPGA based PMC module with integrated dual analog input channels. By closely coupling the high-performance FPGA processing and the analog I/O, the PMC-FPGA05-ADC1 is ideal for applications requiring maximum performance with minimal latencies such as Software Defined Radio (SDR), Signal Intelligence (SigInt) and data recording. The analog input front end incorporates dual channel analog input with a full power input bandwidth of between 100 kHz and 110 MHz with a Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of 68dB and a Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of 82dB. The full scale analog input is +10dBm (2V pk-pk). Front panel clock and trigger inputs are also available.
  • Hermon Labs Rolls Out VoIP and SIP Conformance Testing Solutions
    Hermon Laboratories, a world-leading expert in compliance testing in telecom, announced its new solutions for VoIP and SIP conformance testing.   • Institute for Cosmic Ray Research Selects Fujitsu Data Analysis System
    Fujitsu Limited announced that it has won an order from the Kamioka Observatory of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR) of the University of Tokyo in an open tendering, to supply a new data analysis system that analyzes the structure of outer space by utilizing a cosmic-particle observation detector known as Super-Kamiokande.
  • SBE Sells Embedded Hardware Business to One Stop Systems for $2.2M
    SBE, Inc. (Nasdaq:SBEI), a leading provider of high-performance IP storage solutions serving remote back-up and disaster recovery applications, announced it has signed a definitive asset purchase agreement to sell its embedded hardware business to One Stop Systems, Inc. for approximately $2.2 million in cash. In addition, under the terms of the agreement, One Stop Systems will assume the lease liabilities associated with SBE’s corporate headquarters and equipment related to the embedded hardware business.
