  • Xilinx, Apical Introduce Video Enhancement IP for 1080p HD Displays
    Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, and Apical, a leading provider of advanced image processing solutions, unveiled the Iridix v6 video enhancement core optimized for the Xilinx Spartan(TM)-3 platform. The solution improves display video quality and supports emerging higher definition 1080p displays while using only 20 percent more FPGA resources than the Iridix v5 768p core.   • Cadence SystemVerilog Customer Adoption Rate Triples
    Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic-design innovation, announced that its verification solutions based on SystemVerilog grew over the last year from approximately 40 customers experimenting with the language to more than 150 customers using the language in either prototype projects or mainstream product development.   • Renesas Adopts Synopsys VCS Verification Solution, VMM Methodology
    Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, announced that Renesas Technology Corp., one of the world’s leading semiconductor system solutions providers for mobile, automotive and PC/AV (Audio Visual) markets, has adopted the VCS(R) functional verification solution for the development of complex systems-on-chip (SoC). In addition, Renesas has adopted the VMM methodology, as defined in the Verification Methodology Manual (VMM) for SystemVerilog, for the creation of advanced SoC verification environments. Renesas used the VCS solution with the VMM methodology to verify its critical SuperHyway bus on-chip interconnect infrastructure.
  • Xilinx Showcases Scalable 3-D Graphics Hardware Accelerator for Automotive
    Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, demonstrated the automotive industry’s first 3-D hardware accelerator intellectual property (IP) core targeted specifically for its automotive line of XA (Xilinx Automotive) FPGAs. The logi3D IP core was developed in collaboration with Xilinx Alliance Program participant Xylon, a leading independent design house. Developed with time-critical applications in mind, the Q1P SSD is the first UMPC of its kind to use an SSD solid state flash memory-based hard drive in place of a conventional rotational media-based hard drive.   • Strategy Analytics Predicts Slowdown for Digital Consumer Electronics
    At the opening of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Strategy Analytics announces that 2006 sales of digital consumer electronics reached $167 billion worldwide in 2006, an increase of 31%.   • CEA Expects Consumer Electronics Revenue to Exceed $155 Billion
    Factory-to-dealer sales of consumer electronics are projected to exceed $155 billion in 2007, or seven percent growth, according to the semi-annual industry forecast released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA(R)). The forecast comes on the eve of the 2007 International CES(R), the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow.
