  • NI, Freescale, Wind River Simplify Embedded Design with CompactRIO Controller
    National Instruments (Nasdaq:NATI) today announced the release of the new NI cRIO-9012 high-performance, real-time controller in collaboration with Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL)(NYSE:FSL.B) and Wind River (Nasdaq:WIND). The controller is based on Freescale’s MPC5200 processor built on Power Architecture(TM) technology and Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) to deliver fast performance while maintaining the ruggedness, reliability and low cost of the NI CompactRIO platform.

  • HitachiSoft Introduces Johmon J300 Finger Vein Authentication System
    HitachiSoft will launch the new Johmon J300, a more compact and lower-priced model of its finger vein authentication device that uses vein patterns in the finger to identify users, from November 30. At the same time, the Company will launch AUthentiGate 02-00, a new functionally improved version of the authentication monitoring system that allows vein patterns in the finger to be monitored through an integrated network of servers.

  • Palm Responds to Patent Infringement Lawsuit by NTP
    Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today issued the following statement in response to a patent-infringement lawsuit filed against it by patent-holding company NTP Inc. The NTP lawsuit claims that certain Palm products infringe seven NTP patents. All seven of the patents asserted are being re-examined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and have been rejected by the re-examiners as invalid. Palm also noted that the NTP patents disclose a pager-based email service that has nothing in common with the mobile-computing devices invented by Palm.

    Wavesat, a leading supplier of WiMAX chipsets and software, announced it has completed a significant round of funding led by SK Telecom, a global leader in providing mobile voice and data services. The financing round, which also included participation from existing investors, will be used to accelerate the introduction of Wavesat’s upcoming UMobile(TM) family of full mobility WiMAX/WiBro solutions for the cellular handset market. This will complement Wavesat’s existing leadership products for the fixed and nomadic (laptop) WiMAX markets, enabling Wavesat to provide best-in-class solutions for each WiMAX segment.
