  • Actel Creates First FPGA-Based System Management for MicroTCA Market
    Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL) today announced it is the first silicon provider to embrace the Micro Telecom Computing Architecture (MicroTCA) standard with a comprehensive roadmap of free and tested reference platforms for system management utilizing field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. Leveraging the company’s single-chip mixed-signal Fusion(TM) Programmable System Chip (PSC), these new reference designs include hardware, software and intellectual property (IP) for a complete solution to meet the cost, footprint, flexibility, security and reliability requirements facing today’s system designers.
  • Fujitsu Unveils 32-Bit Microcontrollers with CAN Support for Automotive
    Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today introduced three new high-performance, 32-bit microcontrollers for next-generation automotive applications. The new ICs, part of Fujitsu’s MB91460 series, include the MB91F464AA and MB91F465KA, which have been designed for automotive body control applications. The third MCU, the MB91F467RA, was designed for on-board entertainment and information systems. All three MCUs incorporate Controller Area Network (CAN) interfaces and are available now.
  • TI, Mistral Introduce Virtual CD Changer (VCDC) Reference Design
    Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) and Mistral Software Ltd. are introducing a virtual CD changer (VCDC) reference design built on TI’s Aureus(TM) audio digital signal processors (DSPs). This reference design could help replace the traditional mechanical CD changer in the future, which has a high rate of defects among car parts. VCDCs rip and store CDs, making them less expensive, easier to use and more reliable than traditional CD-changer audio systems. To the user, however, the look and feel is identical to that of a traditional CD changer. This reference design supports multiple audio formats, several media interfaces and premium surround sound, offering manufacturers the flexibility to build multiple products with different functionality from the same board.
  • Bluewater Develops Customizable, ARM Module with Altera Cyclone FPGAs
    Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that Bluewater Systems is using the Cyclone(R) series of low-cost FPGAs in the design of their award-winning Snapper 255, an integrated single-board microcontroller module for embedded applications. Cyclone FPGAs enable Snapper 255 to be fully customizable, giving engineers the flexibility to meet diverse design requirements for a broad range of ARM-based processor systems.
  • Xilinx Ships Virtex-5 LXT Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)
    Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world’s leading supplier of programmable solutions, today announced initial shipments of its Virtex(TM)-5 LXT field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The second of four domain-optimized platforms in the new Virtex-5 family, the LXT platform series is the first FPGA to deliver a hard-coded PCI Express(R) Endpoint and Tri-mode Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) blocks. The Virtex-5 LXT platform also features the industry’s lowest power 65-nanometer (nm) transceiver, typically consuming less than 100mW per channel at 3.2 Gbps.
  • CoWare Joins Symbian Platinum Partner Program

  • Renesas Introduces Microcontroller with MONOS Embedded Flash Technology
    Renesas Technology America, Inc. today announced the SH7147F 32-bit RISC microcontroller (MCU) specialized for controlling the electric motors increasingly being used in automotive chassis, safety and hybrid electric systems. The 64MHz, 32-bit SuperH(R)-family device is the first MCU for automotive motor control systems to use Renesas’ advanced MONOS (Metal Oxide Nitride Oxide Silicon) embedded flash technology that delivers speed, size, and reliability advantages.
  • Renesas Presents Sequoia Telematics Platform with QNX RTOS Support
    As part of its ongoing program to offer complete system solutions for automotive telematics applications, Renesas Technology America, Inc. today announced that its Sequoia(TM) platform, which is based on the Euclid(TM) telematics chip (SH7397), is now supported by a QNX(R) board support package (BSP). That BSP, consisting of the QNX Neutrino(R) real-time operating system (RTOS) and software drivers, will be available from QNX Software Systems in the fourth quarter of 2006. The QNX-enabled Sequoia platform will be showcased at the Convergence 2006 show, October 16 – 18, 2006 in Detroit, Michigan (Renesas booth #02-37 1333).

  • SITEL Merges with ClientLogic
    ClientLogic and SITEL (NYSE:SWW), both leading global business process outsourcing providers, announced today that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, a newly formed subsidiary of ClientLogic will merge with SITEL and pay $4.05 per share in cash for all of the outstanding common stock of SITEL. The Board of Directors of each company has unanimously approved the transaction. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2007 and is subject to customary closing conditions, including approval of SITEL’s shareholders and regulatory clearances.
  • Mobileye Licenses Denali DDR Controller IP for EyeQ2 Vision SoC
