  • Mainline Linux Kernel Gains Real-Time Base Technology
    Basic support for real-time Linux features is now available in the 2.6.18 kernel and will be further extended in future kernel versions. Core technologies related to real-time performance accepted for inclusion into the mainline Linux kernel source have resulted from the leadership of open source contributors such as Red Hat’s Ingo Molnar and TimeSys Senior Open Source Developer Thomas Gleixner. These key technologies submitted by developers at companies such as TimeSys, Red Hat and others are being permanently merged by Linus Torvalds into the mainline Linux kernel. This marks a significant shift from the traditional approach of having individual kernel developers maintain different real-time patch sets outside of the mainline tree.
  • VMETRO Introduces VSIPlus DSP C-libraries for PowerPC 744x
    VMETRO announces the availability of VSIPlus, a bundle of C-libraries for DSP processing, optimized for the PowerPC 744x processor. The VSIPlus libraries support VxWorks 5.5 and products such as the Phoenix VPF1 DSP VXS board. The bundle includes VSIPL, CSIPL and VecLib open-standards. In total, the bundle includes over 6,000 DSP functions.

    Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will introduce a new FlexRay(TM) controller and the latest member of its industry-leading family of graphics display controllers (GDCs) for vehicle navigation systems at Convergence 2006 in Detroit Oct. 16-20. Fujitsu also will announce a high-speed 32-bit CAN microcontroller for the automotive market. The company will hold a briefing on new products and technologies for the automotive market on Monday, Oct. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. in media room “A.” Fujitsu will be at booth 819.

    Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a family of high voltage-input low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators designed to withstand the requirements for harsh operating environments. The new devices offer a wide input voltage range of up to 45 V, providing transient protection for applications such as automotive body controllers, instrument clusters, automotive audio and telematics.

    Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced that Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR), a leading provider of high-performance, mixed-signal silicon solutions for the worldwide communications infrastructure, has standardized on Synopsys’ JupiterXT(TM) design planner with Power Network Synthesis (PNS) capabilities to improve its power implementation flow. The IP Power 9258 strip has merged with Opengear’s award winning CM4000 and IM4200 gateways to enable system administrators, network managers and help desks to securely monitor and control all their servers, PCs, routers, switches and devices.
