  • Freescale Introduces 16-Bit Microcontroller for Automotive Electronics
    Addressing customer needs for design flexibility and platform compatibility, Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) (NYSE:FSL.B) has unveiled a 16-bit microcontroller (MCU) family optimized for a broad range of cost-sensitive automotive body electronics applications. The family includes six devices designed to give customers flexibility in choosing different memory, package and cost options to accommodate their application requirements.
  • TI Announces WiMAX Forum 802.16e Wave 1 Certification Library
    Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE: TXN] expands the depth and distinction of its WiMAX infrastructure solutions with the announcement of its WiMAX Forum 802.16e Wave 1 Certification Library. TI’s highly optimized software library incorporates all of the core signal processing and permutation functions required to build a Wave 1 compliant solution. In addition, TI has incorporated Wave 2 permutation functions to hasten the adoption of the advanced multi-antenna signal processing features such as MIMO and beamforming which are defined as part of the WiMAX Forum Wave 2 feature set. TI’s software library is a key component of its 1 GHz, DSP-based wireless infrastructure solution supporting the evolution of the mobile WiMAX standard.

  • Freescale Creates Integrated Power Supply Solution for PoE Devices

  • Xilinx Introduces Ml501 Development Platform for Virtex-5 LX FPGA
    Xilinx today announced immediate availability of the low-cost, feature-rich ML501 development platform for applications based on its industry-leading 65nm Virtex(TM)-5 LX devices. The platform combines the robust features of a 65nm LX50 device with all the mainstream interfaces and connectors today’s FPGA users expect. The platform features an on-board DDR2 SODIMM socket with 256 MB of memory that can be expanded by the user if desired, plus on-board flash memory for configuration bit stream storage. Single-ended and differential I/O expansion are provided, as well as commonly used interfaces such as USB, PS/2 for keyboard & mouse, an RJ-45 connector for 10/100 Ethernet networking, an RS-232 serial port, video output (DVI/VGA), and audio in and out ports.
  • TI Rolls Out Radio Frequency Transceiver Reference Designs for WiMAX
    Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE:TXN] today expanded its portfolio of complete wireless signal chain solutions for WiMAX applications, introducing three release-to-production radio frequency (RF) transceiver reference designs. These designs support IEEE’s 802.16d/e standard RF front end requirements for a variety of wireless infrastructure technologies, including base stations, access points, wireless backhaul, point-to-point microwave, safety band and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD)-based applications. The complete reference designs include board, design database, schematics and bill of materials to significantly reduce development time. TI is currently displaying these reference boards in its booth number 525 at WiMAX World, October 10-12, at the Boston World Trade Center.

    Wavesat, a leading supplier of WiMAX chipsets, software and development tools and the Microwave Networks Division of Siemens jointly announced they are collaborating on WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) solutions based on IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and in compliance with WiMAX Forum interoperability profiles and have achieved successful interoperability.

  • Signal Forge Expands Test Applications for Signal Generators
    Signal Forge, LLC, developer of portable, high-performance signal generators, released a new version of its Wave Manager software for the Signal Forge 1000 and Signal Forge 800 Signal Generators. Wave Manager is the embedded software application included with the Signal Forge signal generators which provides setup and control for all of the signal generator functions. The new release provides enhanced waveform functions including chirp, pulsed chirp (pulsed FM) and BPSK. The new waveforms add test capabilities needed by developers of wireless devices such as GSM, RFID, Wireless LAN, and Zigbee. Test methodologies supported by the new software include receiver blocking tests and interfering frequency tests.
  • Displaytech Focuses on Microdisplays for Next-Generation Devices
    Displaytech, Inc. today announced that it will focus on delivering the unsurpassed image quality and manufacturability of its microdisplays to a range of new products including small projectors, mobile communications devices, data storage, head-mounted displays (HMDs), and more.   • PLX Implements ExpressLane PEX 8548 with Magma Blast Design Flow
    Magma(R) Design Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq:LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, today announced that PLX Technology, the leading supplier of PCI Express(R) (PCIe) and other standard input/output (I/O) interconnect, implemented the PLX(R) ExpressLane(TM) PEX 8548 — the industry’s first 48-lane, nine-port PCIe switching device that PLX introduced recently — using Magma’s RTL-to-GDSII integrated circuit (IC) design solution.
