  • Rabbit Enables Low-Cost Alternative with Embedded PLC Application Kit
    Magma(R) Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq:LAVA), a provider of semiconductor design software, today announced it has donated specifications for its low-power technology to Accellera, an EDA industry standards organization, as part of Accellera’s low-power standardization effort. The specifications target requirements for logic synthesis, physical synthesis, library modeling, power analysis, special cells, design-for-test (DFT) and automatic test pattern generation (ATPG).
  • Concurrent Debuts CompactPCI Dual PMC SBC with Intel Core Duo Processor
    Concurrent Technologies announces their latest range of high performance RoHS compliant CompactPCI single board computers (SBC) – the PP 410/03x family. To give the latest high performance processing, the boards feature the low power dual core processors from the Intel(R) embedded roadmap: the 1.66 GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo L2400 processor and the higher performance 2.0 GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2500 processor. The PP 410/03x can access up to 4 Gbytes DDR2-400 ECC SDRAM at up to 6.4 Gbytes/s. And for I/O flexibility there are two high performance PMC sites supporting both front and rear I/O, three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PICMG(R) 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI) and PICMG 2.1 (hot swap).

  • WinSystems Debuts 4GB and 8GB RoHS-Compatible CompactFlash Cards
    WinSystems today introduced its 4GB and 8GB RoHS-compatible CompactFlash (CF) cards. These are the largest densities currently available that operate from -40° to +85° Centigrade. They are designed to work with single board computers (SBCs), instruments, cameras or computer systems with a CompactFlash socket for solid state program and data storage. WinSystems’ CompactFlash memory cards incorporate on-board error detection and correction algorithms which are coupled with dynamic wear leveling techniques to deliver more than two million program/erase cycles for most applications.

  • Fujitsu Creates SmartCODEC Image Compression Technology for Automotive
    Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced that it has developed image compression technology for automotive use that complies with the IDB-1394 (ITS Data Bus-1394) standard for in-vehicle digital imaging transmission system networks. The new technology, SmartCODEC, features a compression rate of one-third (1/3), and a fast compression-decompression time of just 2 to 3 milliseconds that enables compression and multiplex transmission of images to inside the vehicle, such as images from multiple automotive cameras located externally on the vehicle. In addition to assisting facilitation of safer driving through these functions, Fujitsu’s new technology also makes it possible to reduce the amount of cable required within the vehicle to achieve fast and high-quality image transmission of multiple images.

    MoSys, Inc.   • BAE, NI, Phase Matrix to Develop PXI Express-Based Synthetic Instrument
    BAE Systems, National Instruments and Phase Matrix Inc. (PMI) today announced a joint initiative to develop a PXI Express-based synthetic instrument for military and commercial RF and microwave applications. PMI is currently developing a 100 KHz to 26.5 GHz family of downconverter modules in a 3U PXI Express-compatible format to support PXI RF and microwave applications. BAE Systems, a leader in synthetic instrument systems, plans to build a next-generation synthetic instrument based on the new downconverter module family, using National Instruments PXI Express chassis, controllers and intermediate frequency (IF) digitizer modules as well as National Instruments LabVIEW graphical development software for host and FPGA-based signal processing.
  • Mentor, Budapest University to Open Integrated Circuit Design Laboratory
    Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced the opening of a new Mentor-sponsored electronic design laboratory at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in Budapest, Hungary.
