  • Atmel Rolls Out Three AVR picoPower Microcontrollers (MCU)
    Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), announced today three new AVR(R) microcontrollers with incorporated power-saving technology that provides multi-year battery life in lighting control, security, keyless entry, ZigBee(TM) and other applications that spend a significant amount of their time in sleep mode. The picoPower(TM) technology reduces “power-save” power consumption to as little as 650 nA, even with the 32 kHz clock running and superior brown-out detection, the industry’s lowest RTC sleep power consumption.
  • Palm Developer Network Empowers Mobile Hardware and Software Developers
    Reaffirming its commitment and ongoing support to the developer community worldwide, Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today unveiled the Palm Developer Network (PDN).   • STMicroelectronics, Chinese Universities Create Microcontroller Laboratory
    STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), a leader in microcontroller design and development, today announced the signing of cooperation agreements with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) to establish a microcontroller (MCU) laboratory on each university campus, as part of a wide ranging cooperation program to develop embedded application technologies and train electronic engineering students.
  • Synopsys Introduces Verification IP Open Core Protocol (OCP) Interface
    Synopsys, a world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced that it has expanded its portfolio of DesignWare(R) Library intellectual property (IP) with the release of verification IP for the Open Core Protocol (OCP) interface. OCP is a common standard IP core interface, or socket, that facilitates “plug and play” system-on-chip (SoC) design. Synopsys has developed verification IP for the OCP interface in response to customer demand for using the DesignWare Library and VCS(R) Verification Library to verify systems and cores that utilize OCP.
  • Digi Rolls Outs PortServer TS HCC MEI Rugged Device Server
    Digi International today introduced the ruggedized PortServer TS HCC MEI, a hardened serial server that makes it easy to Ethernet-enable field devices located along roadsides and at intersections. Designed specifically to operate under severe environmental conditions, it allows customers to network-enable traffic management devices so those devices can be monitored and controlled remotely. With the PortServer TS HCC MEI, users can control traffic lights and variable message signs, issue hazardous road condition warnings and coordinate emergency vehicle detectors and lane control signals’{all from a centralized management station.

The terms of the transaction were approved by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 24, 2006, and at an extraordinary meeting of STI shareholders held on September 12, 2006.
  • Freescale Demonstrates Non-Contact Proximity Sensor Reference Platform

  • Cswitch Selects Mentor Graphics 10 Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller
    Mentor Graphics, a leader in standards-based semiconductor intellectual property (IP), today announced that Cswitch Corporation has selected the Mentor Graphics(R) 10 Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) for its flagship Configurable Switch Array(TM) chip. The new chip is the first to combine the performance and density of an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) with the re-configurability and time to market of an field programmable gate array (FPGA).   • Oki Electric Samples Industry’s Smallest Package MP3 Decoder LSI
    Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703) today announced the sample shipments of its MP3 playback chip. The chip, “ML2011,” integrates an MP3 decoder and speaker amplifier in a single chip with wafer level chip size packaging (W-CSP), achieving the world’s smallest package of 3.6 x 4.2mm. In addition to the LSIs, Oki provides a reference board and a sample of its embedding software enabling users to achieve MP3 systems easily. Oki plans to manufacture this chip in full scale from December 2006.
  • Converged Mobile Devices Shipments Hit New Record High
    Worldwide converged mobile device shipments continued to climb during the second quarter of 2006, nearly reaching the 20 million unit mark. According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, total shipments of converged mobile devices reached a record 19.3 million units for the quarter, marking a 1.9% sequential increase and a 42.1% year-over-year increase. IDC defines a converged mobile device as a mobile phone having a high-level operating system, such as BlackBerry, Linux, Palm, Symbian, or Windows Mobile.
  • NI Releases NI-DNET 1.5 DeviceNet Driver for Control Applications
    National Instruments today announced the release of NI-DNET 1.5, the latest driver software for plug-in NI DeviceNet interfaces. In addition to providing high-level, easy-to-use functions for rapid application development, this upgrade introduces two significant new utilities, the DeviceNet Configurator and the DeviceNet Analyzer.
