EchoeScan

EchoeScan’s central goal is to deliver technically superior solutions in medical ultra- sound instrumentation with special emphasis on signal processing.

EchoeScan’s major intent is to bridge the gap between theoretical work, producing concepts and techniques, and engineering applications, where ideas are then verified to lead to improved performance. Central to this is the translation of innovative techniques into application-specific ICs.

EchoeScan’s primary research activities are targeted on three application fields:

  • Transmit processing, with focus on arbitrary waveform generation
  • Receive processing, focused on optimal signal acquisition
  • Flow imaging focused on wall filtering and flow velocity estimate

EchoeScan is a business enterprise founded by ultrasound veteran Dr. Lazar Shifrin.

Prior to the starting of EchoeScan, Dr. Shifrin worked with several industry leaders such as SRI International, Kaiser Aerospace & Electronics, Acuson, and Siemens Ultrasound. He has developed an expertise in a broad range of technology areas, including signal & image processing, tissue characterization, video technologies, analog & mixed- signal circuit design, and image analysis. Using this mix of skills, Dr. Lazar Shifrin has successfully implemented a number of innovative solutions to complex problems.

Dr. Shifrin was a principal architect of the first commercial ultrasound scanner in the former USSR. Later, he participated in the development of an ultrasound CT. Dr. Shifrin has made a series of contributions in edge/contour detection and object segmentation. His work in the area of quantitative tissue characterization has been focused on examining sets of ultrasound propagation parameters along with image texture analysis. He has conceived a number of novel concepts and techniques for ultrasound front-ends.

Dr. Shifrin received his MSEE and Ph.D. degrees from St. Petersburg (Russia) Electrical Engineering University. His list of publication includes two books and over 40 articles and conference proceedings. Dr. Shifrin is also inventor or co-inventor of three issued Patents along with seven Certificates of Authorship. He is a member of IEEE and SPIE.
