Following Blanchard and Fabrycky, a system is an assemblage of components used by an enterprise to carry out a business purpose. System components consist of hardware, software, and workers. Systems are specified by the components, their attributes, and their relationships. The problem of systems engineering is to design and implement a system that meets a broad set of requirements.
