VDC estimates the combined worldwide shipment of ruggedized luggable/lunchbox and notebook portable personal computers was about $421 million in 1999. We expect the market to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.4% through 2004, to $788.5 million. Portable computers are providing higher employee productivity in a wide variety of applications, and users in these applications are finding that purchase of premium priced ruggedized versions rather than commercial units to be money well spent.
