Software Radio Using the Valley Technologies VT-1406 Dual Channel Narrowband Digital Receiver
In recent years, the trend in radio receivers has been toward digital implementations of the processing following the first IF down-conversion. The increasing performance and decreasing cost of digital signal processing components has driven this evolution. The term "software radio" is often used to describe receivers that process this first IF signal based on The Valley Technologies VT-1406 is an industry standard PMC mezzanine card that provides essential elements of the software radio for two signals simultaneously, including the digital heterodyne, and AM, FM and PM demodulation functions. It uses industry standard Front Panel Data Port (FPDP) for input data and the PCI bus for data output to a DSP based carrier. Numerous options exist for DSP based carrier cards that complete the software radio back-end.
