North American and European consumption of merchant internal AC/DC switching power supplies was nearly $5.4 billion in 2001. This market is forecast to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.2%, reaching nearly $6.3 billion in 2006. Demand is expected to be further stimulated by changing technology, which results in shorter operating lives for products. Also, increasing demand for functionality in products is leading to higher power requirements, which often results in demand for more expensive power supplies.
