Integration of Matching Circuits in GaAs Power MMICs for Cellular Applications

For volume cellular and wireless low noise amplifier (LAN) transmitter applications, there has been a migration of GaAs device designs from a single transistor to complex circuits with integrated bias and impedance matching circuitry. Recently, we have witnessed a dividing of the major system manufacturers into two camps: (1) One supporting maximum integration toward a radio transmitter-on-a-chip (2) One, surprisingly, integrating transistor arrays and eliminating bias and nongain producing elements from the GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs).
