IPv6 Network Processing

This paper describes some of the high-level issues involved in the integration and optimization of data and control plane components for the construction of IPv6 routing devices in a network environment. This has real world applications in a number of environments, including IPv6 routing and switches devices, storage area networking, devices requiring guaranteed quality of service, as well as a myriad of wireless devices. The goal of this paper is to outline the issues necessary to construct an IPv6 device from high-speed data and control plane components. We also discuss supporting dual IPv4/IPv6 stacks, tunneling, and translation.
