How Can I Use UML to Design Object-oriented Real-time Systems When It has No Support for Real Time?

With the industry adoption of the Unified Modeling Language (UML), developers using object-oriented approaches now have a common, high-level modeling notation for defining and designing their systems. This paper will briefly review the capabilities of the UML for developing object-oriented systems and explore extensions to UML (available from ARTiSAN Software Tools) to better handle the development of realtime, embedded systems.
