Designing and Integrating a High Density Voice Gateway Platform on CompactPCI

Designing a high density voice gateway (VG) using industry-standard CompactPCI subsystems requires expertise in many areas, including hardware processor design, DSP design, LAN/WAN I/O design, algorithm integration, hot swap and high availability issues, system, chassis, and backplane design, and thorough knowledge of IP and PCM speech over Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) links. Once these issues have been addressed, the secret to success lies in the time-consuming process of tweaking the hardware, software, algorithms and drivers to maximize Quality of Service (QoS) over a vast web of old and new infrastructure and equipment.
