Combining the use of Multisim and LabVIEW for Circuit Design and Analysis in Undergraduate Electronics Curriculum

This paper introduces a project to provide instructors with resources to integrate the use of Electronics Workbench Multisim and National Instruments LabVIEW in undergraduate electronics curriculum. The paper provides background on the traditional use of these educational software tools, then leads into a discussion of demand from educators for the integration of circuit design, simulation and analysis of simulated circuits with the test and measurement of output from real circuits. The new software interface to enable this integrated usage of Multisim and LabVIEW is described in general and elaborated upon through a detailed example. Additional examples, including Multisim circuit files, LabVIEW VIs and demo versions of the software are provided on an accompanying CD.
