An Approach for Quick Development of High-Powered Telecom Applications on the TI TMS320C620x DSP

A single Texas Instruments TMS320C6201 DSP can potentially host a large, real-time, multi-channel, multialgorithm telecom communications application, if the DSP power is utilized properly. There are two challenges in developing efficient applications for the C6x - (1) developing optimized single-channel algorithm code; and (2) developing optimized multi-channel, multi-algorithm applications. The first challenge is due to the complexity introduced by the Very Large Instruction Word (VLIW) architecture of the C6x DSP. Due to VLIW architecture, a C6x DSP instruction word consists of eight parallel instructions.
