A Network Operator's Guide for Selecting Echo Canceller Equipment
The telecommunications equipment marketplace is filled with a variety of Echo Canceller (EC) products being promoted by different vendors. Obviously, the characteristics and performance of these products are not identical. In addition, the non-uniformity and arbitrary judgment that is often introduced into the EC product selection process makes the network operator's final decision both risky and error prone. This paper describes the criteria and standards that are available to facilitate methods for objectively analyzing the benefits of EC technology when confronted with multiple EC product choices. Procedures for performing electrical (hybrid) and acoustic echo cancellation evaluation, conducting subjective testing, assessing feature performance, and validating product compliance (environmental, standards, maintenance, reliability, etc.) is provided for both wireless and wireline EC applications.
