Automated Layout of a Mixed-signal IC for a Laser Distance Measuring System

This paper addresses reports on experiences with automatic analog layout synthesis using the NeoCell tool in the context of a very high-performance laser range-finding application. The rangefinder requires both aggressive analog components (for example, a 600MHz voltage-controlled oscillator) and a low-cost consumer-oriented process (0.5µm digital CMOS). This paper describes how layout synthesis can be successfully applied—even in difficult analog design scenarios such as the one described here.
