Adding Connectivity to Machines - Design Just isn't the Same Anymore?

There was a time that "system design" was a quantifiable, standalone entity almost governed by what the eye could see - the physical interface to the outside world and the underlying hardware, software and mechanical building blocks. But what happens when you add "connectivity" to your machine?

Your system suddenly extends beyond your equipment, outside of your control and encompasses many 3rd part elements. These elements include the network itself, the central management systems, browser users and perhaps the Service and Network Provider - the list appears to be endless! Steve Whitehead, Technical Director of Comtech, discusses this shift in system design requirements and highlights some of the key associated issues.
