Eleven High-Technology Companies Sponsor EDN Innovation Awards

3/29/2006 - Eleven high-technology companies representing every sector of the semiconductor industry are joining together to sponsor the EDN Innovation Awards gala event in April. The Innovation Awards honor the industry's most outstanding technology advancements and the engineers who brought those technologies to use in new products introduced over the past year.

The 16-year-old program further encourages the spirit of innovation by granting a $10,000 scholarship to the university chosen by the elected innovator of the year.

EDN's 16th Annual Innovation Awards current roster of sponsors are as follows:

Avnet Electronics Marketing

Cadence, National Instruments, Rambus, Silicon Laboratories, and Maestro Marketing & Public Relations

Fujitsu, Kontron, Synplicity, Xilinx, and the International Engineering Consortium

"Every advancement in electronics is the result of innovation," stated John Schirmer, EDN Group Publisher. "When a teenager plugs into his personal selection of reggae, or instant-messages a friend, or looks up sports scores online, there are thousands of engineers who made those activities easy, reliable, affordable and, most of all, possible. As consumers we take technology for granted, but every electronic device is a miracle of technology and a credit to engineers everywhere. Our sponsors nurture that innovation within their own companies and collectively through the awards program."

Maury Wright, EDN editor-in-chief, added, "Engineers are creative, curious, and driven to make products smaller, faster, and more efficient. It's not just a character trait. Engineers are at heart innovators. They are constantly looking for the next-best-thing and figuring out how to make it. The range of our sponsors demonstrates the solidarity in wanting to encourage the spirit of invention and discovery in a tangible way."
