2/23/2006 - Mistral Software, an ISO 9001:2000 certified and CMMi Level 3 appraised premium product-realization company, today announced the availability of its new OMAP5912 based WLAN Reference Design (WRD) featuring SyChip's low power, small footprint fully integrated IEEE 802.11g/b Chip Scale Module (CSM). Targeted at the niche mobile and wireless computing market, the WRD provides product developers a head start towards building their next generation wireless enabled mobility solutions.
Highlights of the WLAN Reference Design
The WLAN Reference Design supports four RF modules: WLAN, BLUETOOTH, GSM/GPRS and GPS on a single small form factor board and supports Microsoft Windows® CE 5.0 /Windows Mobile on TI's OMAP5912 processor. The small footprint and low-power consumption of the WRD provides product developers with an easy-to-use platform to simulate or test the wireless connectivity of their mobile applications. The reference design is one of the few WLAN solutions currently available in the market and can save developers four to six months in their design cycle.
The WLAN functionality on the board is provided using SyChip's WLAN6100EB, an industry-leading IEEE 802.11g feature set optimized for mobile handheld devices with advanced power save functions, security capability and physical form factor. The 6100 Embedded Module, with its world class size, electrical performance and plug-and-play capability combined with the other RF capabilities on the board like 802.11g, GPS, Bluetooth and mobile telephony, ensure that product developers and designers using the WLAN Reference Design are equipped with the best and the latest robust mobile device to jumpstart the development of their size constrained and power sensitive wireless enabled devices.
Potential Applications for the WLAN Reference Design
The WLAN Reference Design can be used by developers who are designing wireless devices that go beyond basic wireless connectivity. With support for various other wireless technologies like GPS, Bluetooth and mobile telephony, companies can design products for various vertical markets like Automotive, Consumer, Medical, Industrial, Sporting Goods, Media Devices, Gaming Terminals etc. The human mind is the limitation to the possibilities that this platform can be used for.
"Our goal is to provide solutions that help product designers and developers shorten their development life cycle and bring products-to-market faster. By leveraging the robust capabilities of our WLAN Reference Design and its comprehensive functionality, developers can accelerate their system integration and product realization process. We are looking at licensing the WRD to product vendors in various verticals and can even help customize this design for specific applications." said Anees Ahmed, CEO, Mistral Software Inc.
"The growing presence of wireless LAN access points and hotspots is creating a demand for smart mobile devices with built-in connectivity," said Samyeer Metrani, VP (Product Development) at Mistral. "Our enterprise with SyChip gives us the confidence to continue to provide our customers with world class technology solutions that minimize the time and effort required to bring out such smart mobile devices to meet the demanding requirements of the future.
Mistral will demo this product at the TI Developer Conference at Dallas, Texas from 28th February to 2nd March 2006. For demos and discussions at the TIDC, please email us or call +1-925-577-0796
SyChip designs, develops and markets Integrated Circuits and Chip Scale Modules for the wireless mobile market. The company focuses on developing RF modules that are differentiated due to proprietary integration, modular architectures, and low loss Silicon technologies. As a result of the proprietary integration, world-class RF system design, proprietary multifunction ASICs, software and smart utilities, SyChip's RF designs drastically reduce component count, offer very small footprints and are easy to integrate into a mobile device. Customers benefit by significantly reducing their time-to-market, increasing performance and improving reliability of their wireless devices. SyChip has received multiple awards, including the 2005 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 - number one in Texas and number ten in North America, the TiEcon 2005 Emerging Star Award, MobileTrax "2005 Mobility Award", finalist for the "2005 Red Herring 100", Deloitte's 2004 "Fast 500 Rising Star Award", "Best Wireless Accessory" by Handheld Computing, "Start-Up to Watch" by the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA), as well as being selected as Investors' Choice award winner at VentureWire's annual MicroVentures conference.
