1/6/2006 - Accelerated Technology(r), a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), announced that together with embedded software provider, Blue Peach, the companies are now providing the only embedded Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)-based Networked Attached Storage (NAS) Media Server for digital home applications. The two companies are also providing integrated development kits for the Intel(r) IOP321 I/O processor and Intel(r) 80219 general purpose PCI processor.
The integration of the Accelerated Technology Nucleus(r) PLUS RTOS and Blue Peach's Blue Stream NAS Digital Media Server with the Intel family of storage building blocks answers the consumer electronic industry's need for a royalty-free and unencumbered license solution for integrating consumer electronics into the digital home. This combined technology provides developers with a scalable and portable platform on which to deploy embedded digital content-aware applications quickly and easily. It also offers robust functionality on an advanced storage controller platform, that results in a cost-effective, fast media server with power-up time of under five seconds.
"This announcement marks another successful milestone in Blue Peach's long-standing collaboration with Accelerated Technology. The availability of Blue Peach's Blue Stream Media Server and Universal Plug and Play software, together with our file sharing stacks, lays the foundation for future generations of consumer electronics solutions," said Rich Schmitt, CTO of Blue Peach. "We've chosen the Nucleus software as our primary platform for these products because of the software's maturity, platform availability and royalty-free licensing that make it the leading choice for the emerging device revolution."
"The Blue Peach NAS Media Server is an important third-party product for Accelerated Technology and underscores our commitment to the consumer electronics marketplace. The combination of these world-class software components creates the perfect multimedia match for a broad range of client devices," said Glen Johnson, product marketing manager, Accelerated Technology. "The Nucleus software has always had very strong market presence in embedded consumer applications and our customers can now benefit from even more functionality to help reduce their development time. We see this offering as only the beginning of a full line of consumer electronics applications and middleware for our company."
"Entry-level NAS appliances fill a gap in the existing storage matrix, offering cost-effective solutions without sacrificing storage performance," said Mike Wall, general manager of Intel's Storage Group Marketing. "A complete solution based on the Intel IOP321 I/O and Intel(r) 80219 general purpose PCI processors enables affordable storage solutions that enable the consumer to instantly store and access movies, photographs and music.
The Nucleus PLUS RTOS, with its royalty-free licensing model, is offered with the consumer electronics manufacturers' business in mind. Its full range of processor and device support enables rapid time to market for any development project. The Blue Stream NAS Media Server is an example of the Nucleus software's robust device support.
The integrated media server development platform is a full-featured integrated hardware and software system that includes media and NAS server products from Blue Peach, and the Nucleus PLUS RTOS, the Nucleus FILE file management software with SATA, and the Nucleus NET networking stack with Gigabit Ethernet from Accelerated Technology. The development platform integrates the software with the Intel IQ31244 and the IQ80219 development kits. These platforms are designed to deliver high performance and reliable storage at a low cost. The combination will help revolutionize the home by enabling enterprise-level storage within the digital home.
