COMMENTARY ABOUT THE INNOVATION AWARDS:
"Engineers not only shape the technology industry, they shape our lives as well," states John Schirmer, Group Publisher, EDN, Electronic Business, and Electronic News. "Their imaginations have inspired new markets, new products, and new industries around the world and the EDN Innovation Awards recognize this unique contribution to society."
"Over its 50-year lifetime, EDN has witnessed many distinguished achievements," adds Maury Wright, editor-in-chief of EDN. The Innovation Awards provide an opportunity to recognize the rich talent in our industry. At the same time, these awards allow us to nurture the growth of engineering careers and the future of electronics through our annual donation to engineering education."
ABOUT THE EDN INNOVATION AWARDS:
Each fall, nominations are submitted to EDN in categories such as analog and power ICs; application-specific standard products (ASSPs); digital ICs; EDA tools and ASIC technologies; embedded-system technologies; passive components, sensors, indicators, and interconnect; power supplies; software; test and measurement systems and boards. A panel of EDN editors evaluates the submissions and selects finalists. Names of finalists will be published in EDN's February 2, 2006 print edition. EDN readers and industry participants then have their opportunity to vote for their choice of winners. This aspect makes the awards program unique in that winners are selected by their peers. Voting takes place until March 1, 2006, and awards are announced at a black-tie awards ceremony on April 3, 2006.
