9/23/2005 - No more waiting for Mac users! Fujitsu, one of the global leaders in document scanner productions, has announced the launch of its brand-new desktop colour image scanner - 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' - at the Apple Expo (20.-24.09.2005) in Porte de Versailles, France (Hall 5 / Stand D79). Supporting Mac OS® X Tiger from Apple®, Fujitsu's 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' is designed to improve productivity and to solve business document scanning problems in the office.
The 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' is Fujitsu's most compact, upright desktop image scanner to date, targeted at business professionals who need to quickly convert paper documents of variable sizes up to A4 into Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files that can be easily shared, organised and protected. "The 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' is unrivalled in the Macintosh world," exclaims Hidetoshi Fukuda, General Manager, Imaging System Division, Fujitsu Europe Limited Group.
"With hundreds of breakthrough features, including Spotlight, a lightning fast way for users to find virtually anything stored on their Mac, Tiger will fundamentally change the way people use their computers, said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.
"We're thrilled that Fujitsu has developed a solution that allows Tiger users to Spotlight search their collection of scanned documents, photographs, and other electronic files."
PDF files at the touch of a button
The 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' is a user-friendly, small office solution for the Mac environment. Its incredibly simple to use: at the touch of a button, the scanner will convert paper documents into digital images, scanning 15 pages per minute (A4, portrait, 150dpi) in the one-sided simplex mode and 30 images per minute in duplex mode (A4, portrait, 150 dpi), scanning front and back pages in just one single pass. Included is a full version of Adobe® Acrobat® 7.0 software for saving documents in PDF format – the worldwide, de facto standard for secure and reliable document distribution via print, the web, and mobile devices. The scanner automatically recognizes whether documents are black & white or colour, and even deletes unwanted blank pages.
For fluent paper management, the 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' comes with an advanced 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF), which can easily accommodate multiple paper thicknesses as well as paper sizes from small business cards up to A4.
"Capture technology has become so critical to businesses and individuals—on all computing platforms—not only due to increasing amounts of paper-based information, but also because of ever-increasing regulatory requirements," said Robert Raiola, European Marketing Director (Desktop, Creative Pro and Education), Adobe.
"The blend of the Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner with Acrobat and Adobe PDF is a solid combination to address these needs. Using Acrobat 7.0, Fujitsu customers can build on the impressive functionality of ScanSnap and more efficiently create, secure, share, collaborate on, and archive intelligent, searchable documents."
Compact, yet fast and high resolution scanning
The 'ScanSnap for Macintosh's new ergonomically designed white exterior is not much bigger than a standard telephone book and sits comfortably alongside the Macintosh unit for quick and easy day-to-day scanning use. Its quality is not sacrificed for size or speed and users benefit from scanner's range of high output resolutions of 150, 200, 300 and 600dpi, with an optical resolution of 600 dpi.

The Fujitsu 'ScanSnap for Macintosh' image scanner will be on the market in September 2005 at a recommended retail price of 449 Euro plus VAT. Information about the Apple Expo Show is being provided under www.apple-expo.com.
