Kontron Gains Premier Membership in Intel Communications Alliance

9/16/2005 - Kontron AG, a market leader in embedded computer technology and mobile rugged solutions, announced that it has been promoted to Premier membership status in the Intel® Communications Alliance. Kontron has a commitment to providing cutting-edge, modular, open standard solutions in the communications and embedded markets. Kontron has been an Associate Member of the Intel Communications Alliance since the inception of the Alliance in 2003. Previously, Kontron belonged to several Intel programs intended for the embedded and communications market segments.

Kontron is the only Europe-based company among the four Premier members of the Alliance. Kontron has a strong commitment to the communications market and other embedded market segments such as automation, transportation and medical technology, with its multi-million Euro investments in the next generation of communications and embedded platforms such as AdvancedTCA®, AdvancedMCTM, MicroTCATM and ETXexpress (COM Express). Premier membership status reflects a close working relationship between Intel and Kontron that can provide greater benefits to customers, namely early involvement with new Intel technologies for shorter time-to-market design developments, and joint activities in the strategic development of the communications and other embedded markets.

"We are extremely proud to be a Premier Member of the Intel Communications Alliance and be in a stronger position to better serve our customers together with Intel," said Hannes Niederhauser, Chief Executive Officer of Kontron AG. "With early access to leading-edge Intel technologies and the support we obtain from Intel, we will be able to further accelerate customer communication application design projects for the wireless and wireline network infrastructure. We expect the rapidly expanding ATCA market to reach a volume in excess of US $15 billion over the next two years, and perceive a potential of more than US $150 million in business for Kontron. Backed by our extensive investments in the communications market, Kontron will continue to strive, grow, and remain a leader within the industry."

Kontron's AdvancedTCA/AdvancedMC strategy is to address the specific design requirements of Kontron's telecom and datacom customers, with particular emphasis on:

  1. Offering one of the broadest AdvancedTCA blade portfolios in the industry; all of the blades are 'AMC everywhere' enabled
  2. Supplying one of the broadest AdvancedMC product offerings
  3. Providing easy integration of its AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMC products to ensure seamless interoperability between these two new architectures, as well as offer "Application-Ready" solutions for its Telecom Equipment Manufacturer (TEMs) clients.

With the goal of further facilitating smooth migration to open standard, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) platforms, Kontron also offers a family of COM Express and customized building blocks that reduce the time-to-market compared to proprietary solutions.
