8/29/2005 - Kontron introduced the first ATX-compatible Mini-ITX board with Intel® Pentium® M at the end of 2004 and is now releasing high performance Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron® processor models with processors up to 3.06 GHz. The 886LCD/mITX board is particularly attractive thanks to its long-term availability and the Intel 852GME/Intel 6300ESB chipset with integrated graphics. Furthermore, the lower CPU cost makes the cost/performance ratio of the 886LCD/mITX system is even more attractive than that of Pentium-M model. Thus, the 886LCD/mITX is ideal for CPU intensive, cost sensitive industrial applications.
The board is equipped with all the relevant interfaces, including LVDS, an AGP/DVO slot, serial ATA 150 with RAID-0/1 support, four USB 2.0 ports, three 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, and four RS232 interfaces. Customer-specific expansion boards can be implemented via a PCI slot. Designed for long-term availability, the boards are used in point-of-sale or point-of-information applications, the gaming and infotainment industry, banking technology, measurement technology, and in industrial computing.
The 886LCD/mITX provides dazzling graphics thanks to the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller, which is integrated into the chipset. The board has VGA, on-board LVDS and AGP/DVO graphic interfaces. The AGP/DVO interface can be used for standard external AGP graphic card and for ADD cards, which allow a second LCD connection at low cost. Several versions of ADD cards are also available from Kontron. An on-board AC-97/DD5.1 interface or an on-board stereo amplifier provides high quality sound.
Fast hard drive connection
Besides a 32 bit/33 MHz PCI slot, the 886LCD/mITX also offers the future-proof serial ATA interface and Soft RAID 0/1 for fail-safe data storage with multiple hard drives. In addition to two traditional ATA-100 the 886LCD/mITX is enhanced by two fast serial ATA 150 IDE interfaces. In contrast to parallel ATA technology, serial ATA offers point-to-point connection, allowing any connected storage medium to use the entire bandwidth. Moreover, serial ATA offers Hot Plug, smaller plugs, longer cables and standardized layout and construction.
The 886LCD/mITX can mount up to 1GB DDR333 SDRAM and has a front side bus speed of 400 MHz.
Mini-ITX is a new ATX-compatible motherboard standard that has quickly gained great acceptance from professional users. At a mere 17 cm x 17 cm, Mini-ITX is the smallest ATX-compatible motherboard form factor. These small dimensions enable its use in very compact housings and systems. All Mini-ITX boards from Kontron are specially designed for use in embedded systems, and are therefore built to be robust and available in the long-term.
