8/29/2005 - Aeroflex Incorporated (Nasdaq:ARXX), a leader in the design and manufacture of RF and Radio test systems, has announced the release of a new 2.7 GHz service monitor. The IFR3902, based on the IFR3901 1GHz radio test set, expands the operating range of the service monitor to 2.7 GHz for both generating and receiving analog and digital RF signals.
New analog duplex features
The IFR3902 and IFR3901 radio test systems now feature new system test capabilities. With firmware release version 1.1, both test systems support analog duplex test capabilities as a standard feature. With this firmware release, these test systems support extensive testing for AM and FM radios, including full analog duplex operation from 1MHz to 1GHz or 2.7GHz respectively, full span spectrum analyser with displayed average noise level of –125dBm, three independent audio modulation sources from 1Hz to 20kHz, three independent audio frequency generators for base-band audio analysis and broadband RF power meters from 100mw to 125Watts.
The IFR3902 and IFR3901 radio test systems also now feature in-band RF RSSI meter usable to –100dBm, full function wide-band spectrum analyser to either 1GHz or 2.7GHz, full analyser capabilities for RF frequency error, power and modulation accuracy, full audio analysis for SINAD and distortion with audio filters and dual channel oscilloscope usable to 4MHz as well as a full suite of analysis meters with pass/fail parameters and full Internet remote capability for monitoring front screen features.
Exclusive site monitoring application analyses noise floor and effective receiver sensitivity
The new IFR3902 and the IFR3901 now support the optional Site Monitoring Application. With this new option (IFR3901OPT051) these units can be used for determining effective receiver sensitivity of a particular RF channel. This allows users to automatically determine the noise floor of their system for site selection and channel interference issues. As an automated option, the Site Monitoring function allows a system engineer to set up the unit for a particular channel or frequency and then find the effective sensitivity level, without having to spend valuable time on-site. Results, including spectral data, are logged directly to the unit’s hard drive for long-term recording of critical RF performance parameters. No external computer system is required to run these tests. Along with the effective sensitivity level monitoring, the system also provides a rapid capture mode of spectrum data if a sensitivity threshold level is passed. This allows engineers to view interference issues with time and date stamped data without having to be on-site.
These new test features are compatible with SAT Corporation’s new SigMon 4000 Advanced Site Monitoring Software suite. This suite expands the power of the IFR3901 or IFR3902 to do advanced analysis of noise floor and interference issues. The SigMon 4000 also provides long-term data logging and report generation to collect “evidence” that allows the system engineer to quickly determine if problems lay within the system or are attributable to RF interference issues. Over the last 15 years, hundreds of customers have used this documented evidence to resolve site and system interference problems directly with interfering organisations and with regulatory agencies.
