Aspex Semiconductor to Launch New OpenRL Open Standard API at IBC
8/24/2005 - Aspex SemiconductorTM, a UK-based fabless* semiconductor company developing leading-edge software programmable extreme processors, will launch a new open standard Application Programming Interface (API), OpenRL, at IBC 2005. OpenRL allows developers of high-performance image processing applications to take advantage of plug-in hardware accelerators without needing to understand the underlying accelerator. This reduces their time to market, and reduces risk and development costs. Aspex will be at IBC in hall 7, stand 809.
Developed in conjunction with Imagineer Systems, OpenRL is a platform-independent API. It is targeted at developers of image processing software in the broadcast, video and film post-production markets, and can be used for developing any high-performance image processing application.
For designers wishing to develop image processing applications around the new OpenRL API, Aspex offers an OpenRL Development Kit to provide a quick start environment for software developers.
Also at IBC:
- AcceleraTM 3000 - developed around Aspex Linedancer software programmable processors, Accelera 3000 accelerates software-intensive tasks such as pre-processing, filtering, object recognition, rendering and video compression. Targeted at plug-in vendors, Accelera offers render-farm performance in every desktop, at a fraction of the cost.
- Accelera HD MPEG-2 Encoder - this year has seen a marked increase in the uptake of high definition television which in turn has created massive performance challenges for the industry. Aspex has developed an accelerated future-proofed HD platform for video compression in partnership with software video codec provider, MainConcept. This product will also feature on the MainConcept stand (2.340).
