MaxStream Offers Class I, Division 2 Certified Wireless Radio Modems

8/17/2005 - MaxStream® now offers Class I, Division 2 certified wireless radio modems. Class I, Div. 2 compliance ensures that specified MaxStream radios can be safely deployed in hazardous locations where highly flammable vapors are present.

This certification encompasses compliance for use in environments where gases such as acetylene, hydrogen, ethylene and propane (Groups A, B, C, D) may be present. Class I, Div. 2 certification is often required for operation in locations such as gas stations, refineries, chemical plants and pipelines.

“Having Class I, Div. 2 certification lets integrators use MaxStream radios in hazardous environments, allowing for greater deployment in applications that can benefit from the flexibility of wireless communications,” said Hugh Nielsen, MaxStream’s Chief Technology Officer. “Having already passed the stringent requirements of both Class I, Div. 2 and FCC, MaxStream wireless modems do not require OEMs or end-users to obtain additional safety and government agency approvals before they can be used in the field.”

MaxStream’s award winning 900 MHz 9XTend wireless radio modem will now be available in a Class I, Division 2 certified stand-alone model (Part no. 9XTend-PKD-RD). The 1 Watt 9XTend wireless modem is capable of communicating up to 40 miles (line-of-sight with a high gain antenna) and also includes such advanced features as 256-bit AES encryption, low-power sleep modes and 115 Kbps data rate. OEM modules and additional stand-alone products featuring Class I, Div. 2 certification will be made available for special orders.
