Concurrent Technologies Unveils MPC7447A PowerPC Based VME64x SBC

8/10/2005 - Concurrent Technologies has broadened its PowerPC based VME64x product range with the introduction of the VP 754/20x. This single slot board is designed around the FreeScale® 1.4 GHz MPC7447A PowerPC® processor and supports up to 1.25 Gbytes 266MHz DDR SDRAM (with ECC). The VP 754/20x is designed to meet the explicit needs of high-end performance processing in the VME real-time single board computer market. Vertical markets include military, aerospace, scientific and telecommunications industries. For harsher applications the 1.0 GHz VP 754/20x-E operates at -25C to +70C.

As well as low power benefits, typically 21W, the 1.4 GHz MPC7447A offers 128-bit AltiVecTM technology plus 64 Kbytes L1 cache and 512Kbytes L2 cache. The MPC7447A processor connects to the Marvell® DiscoveryTM II (MV64360) PCI bridge, chosen for its flexibility and excellent performance characteristics. As well as interfacing to 1.25Gbytes DDR SDRAM, the MV64360 interfaces to 64 Mbytes of application Flash EPROM and also provides, on-chip, 2 Mbytes NVSRAM. The MV64360 provides, on-chip, dual Gigabit Ethernet channels, which are independent of, and therefore do not load, the PCI busses.

The VP 754/20x supports a 64-bit 66MHz PMC site with front panel I/O (rear I/O via optional P0) and an EIDE interface connecting up to four ATA100 disk drives. It features dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB ports, two RS232/RS422/RS485 serial ports with modem control signals and a graphics interface (and if required, two of the USB ports could be used for keyboard and mouse connections). It also features four 32-bit general-purpose timers, a 32-bit CPU decrementer and 64-bit CPU time base, plus a real-time calendar clock. An optional P2 or P2/P0 breakout is available.

Extended temperature operation is available as an option, and it utilizes the 1.4 GHz MPC7447A processor operating at 1.0 GHz.

The VP 754/20x will support a range of operating systems - VxWorks®, Linux® and LynxOS®. Remote booting over the Ethernet is also supported.
