7/7/2005 - KUKA Controls, a leading developer of real-time operating system solutions for Windows XP, announced the latest release of VxWin®, a Microsoft Windows® extension for Wind River VxWorks. KUKA Controls' VxWin Version 3.1 allows VxWorks developers to take advantage of the latest multiprocessor systems from Intel and AMD. Developers will also benefit from support of the latest Wind River development environments including Workbench and the Diab compiler. VxWin Version 3.1 is now available through the global distribution network of KUKA Controls.
KUKA Controls' real-time software extensions have applications in the Aerospace, Automation, Defense, Medical and Test & Measurement markets. The company is a Microsoft Gold Level Windows Embedded Partner (WEP) and a Wind River Platform Partner. These long-term relationships provide smooth integration of the latest OS updates and assure customers of the necessary long-term platform stability. KUKA Controls also certifies third-party hardware compatibility to simplify development of new real-time applications.
VxWin V3.1 adds support for both APIC and multiprocessor systems including support for the ACPI uniprocessor and ACPI multiprocessor HALs used in most modern PC hardware. The ACPI support adds freeze and unfreeze functionality. VxWin can now be started as a service, allowing the application to begin real-time processing without user logon.
Application development is enhanced with support for the Eclipse architecture and Workbench development environment as well as the Wind River Diab C/C++ compiler suite and the legacy GNU compiler. Applications will benefit from the many additional features of the latest Wind River RTOS.
VxWin enables the coexistence of two operating systems on one processor, in part, by dividing the PC memory so that VxWorks and Windows XP each execute in separated and protected memory areas. No modifications are made to either operating system allowing developers to take advantage of previous experience and existing code while maintaining maximum flexibility. The VxWin 3.1 evaluation software is available as a free download on KUKA Controls' website at www.kuka-controls.com. It offers the complete functionality of the full version for a 30-day test period.
