AMCC's PowerPC 440EP Kit Includes Embedded Toolsmiths' Agile-DB Debugger

7/1/2005 - Embedded Toolsmiths announced the inclusion of its powerful Agile-DB Debugger in Applied Micro Circuits Corporation’s (AMCC) [NASDAQ:AMCC] comprehensive, low-cost PowerPC® 440EP evaluation kit. To accelerate customers’ system development time, AMCC’s 440EP kit provides users with a comprehensive set of resources including a custom-designed evaluation board, industry-standard software development tools, sample applications, system-level benchmarks and hardware design files.

Embedded Toolsmiths’ fully functional Agile-DB Debugger, included in the 440EP kit, provides customers with a quick and easy tool for debugging Linux applications over a fast reliable Ethernet link. Agile-DB comes ready-to-run with support for the Linux (2.6) kernel pre-installed in the flash of the evaluation kit, allowing users to start debugging Linux applications immediately.

For customers requiring the extra power of JTAG based debugging, special evaluation kit pricing is available on Embedded Toolsmiths’ Guardian-SE JTAG hardware upgrade. Guardian-SE works in concert with Agile-DB to provide advanced debug features via the JTAG connector, provided on the evaluation board or on customers’ own custom hardware.

Embedded Toolsmiths’ Agile-DB debugger provides debugging and run control for AMCC’s PowerPC processors and offers the following advantages:

  • Crash-proof debug of popular kernels and operating systems, including Embedded Linux (kernel and application space debug)
  • High speed downloads, FLASH programming and single-stepping using powerful JTAG technology
  • Easy-to-use, yet powerful enough for the toughest debugging task
  • Data Book view of on-chip registers allow fast, easy target configuration
  • A powerful GUI that lets you arrange data on screen according to your preferences
  • Turnkey flash libraries included for all popular devices

“We are excited to provide our Agile-DB debug tools for AMCC’s evaluation kits," said Greg Johansen, vice president of engineering for Embedded Toolsmiths. “Together, AMCC and Embedded Toolsmiths will provide customers with the tools and support they need to get their products to market under budget and faster than ever before."

“We are constantly looking for ways to bring additional value to our customers,” said Charlie Ashton, director of PowerPC software at AMCC. By offering this comprehensive evaluation kit that includes Embedded Toolsmiths’ industry-leading debugger, at a reasonable price, we are doing just that.”

AMCC’s kit also includes an evaluation board named “Yosemite” designed for AMCC by Embedded Planet, LLC. The Yosemite board is configured with the Linux operating system. Schematics and layout files for the board are provided so customers can start their designs from a proven baseline. The board, with a 5” x 7” form factor, includes an AMCC 440EP processor, operating at a clock frequency of 533MHz.

AMCC’s 440EP evaluation kit complete with Embedded Toolsmiths’ Guardian SE and Agile DB is now available. Aggressively priced at $750, AMCC’s 440EP evaluation kit may be ordered from AMCC using part number EV-440EP-KIT-00.
