Digi Introduces Watchport/V2 USB Camera for Remote Monitoring

7/1/2005 - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) announced the introduction of the Inside Out Networks Watchport/V2, Digi's next generation high-performance commercial grade USB camera. It is ideal for any mission-critical application such as kiosks, automated teller machines, ID badging, building security, point-of-sale applications and mobile computing. The new Watchport/V2 is an enhanced version of the company's award-winning Watchport/V camera and includes new features to boost performance and make it even easier to integrate into commercial applications. Combined with Digi's motion detection software, the Watchport/V2 can also be used as a cost-effective remote monitoring system.

"Our first generation Watchport camera has been used in thousands of commercial applications worldwide," said Stephen Popovich, general manager, Inside Out Networks, Digi International. "We are committed to serving the commercial market by manufacturing rugged, industrial-strength cameras with outstanding low-light sensitivity and enhanced resolution. The Watchport's new features and performance improvements now make the camera even easier to integrate into any new or existing commercial application."

The Watchport/V2 includes new features such as a DirectShow WDM driver, a driver that allows developers to interface with Microsoft's Direct X development platform, motion JPEG compression and new camera mounts. The Watchport/V2 also features exceptional low-light sensitivity, 30 frames per second at all resolutions, enhanced resolution for optimal picture quality and an optional lens kit for additional customization. The camera is USB powered and offers Plug and Play installation for easy integration. Convenient wall and clamp mounts are also available allowing temporary or permanent camera mounting in nearly any environment.

Watchport Manager software is included to deliver centralized device status information. The software supports data logging to preserve historical information and enables the easy integration of multiple cameras or other Watchport sensors without additional software development. For remote monitoring applications, Watchport Manager can provide alerts via email, pager and computer screen, or send an event trigger to an external application.

Easily Create a Cost-effective Remote Monitoring System
New motion detection software is also available, transforming the Watchport/V2 into a surveillance system. "At hundreds of dollars less than the cost of typical CCTV and other remote monitoring systems, the Watchport/V2 plus motion detection software provides a simple, cost-effective solution," Popovich added. "The camera can easily be used as a remote monitoring system to protect a cash register, gas pump, ATM, warehouse, data room, parking lot, office, home or any other property. The Watchport/V2 can reduce the total cost of ownership, extend the life of equipment and reduce system downtime."

The Watchport/V2 and Watchport motion detection software can be combined with sensors to measure proximity, humidity, temperature, water, distance, acceleration or tilt to create a fully customized monitoring system. Watchport/V2, Watchport motion detection software and Watchport sensors are shipping today.
