Quester Joins Catalyst's Technology Funding Partnership

6/3/2005 - Catalyst Venture Partners, the specialist business accelerator and corporate finance advisor, has announced that Quester, one of the UK’s leading independent venture capital investors, has joined its recently announced Technology Funding Partnership. Quester’s participation both boosts and broadens the investment funds accessible to the companies in Catalyst’s thriving company Accelerator Programme.

Specialising in funding for entrepreneurial, early-stage companies in the technology and healthcare/life sciences sectors, Quester adds an extra dimension to the Technology Funding Partnership. Quester has also established three highly successful University Seed and Investment Funds to finance the commercial spin-out of University-developed technologies.

Commenting on the decision to join Catalyst’s Technology Funding Partnership, Jamie Brooke, a Director of Quester said: “Joining Catalyst’s Technology Funding Partnership makes perfect sense for Quester as we are extremely impressed with the role Catalyst plays in getting companies ready for funding. Its Accelerator Programme is rapidly gaining an enviable reputation as a basis for preparing companies for investment and fast growth. The Programme is also a natural complement for our strategy of investing in early-stage technology companies. We have investment funds available and participating in Catalyst’s Technology Funding Partnership will ensure that we have an early insight to some very high quality investment opportunities.”

As a member of the Technology Funding Partnership, Quester will be able to monitor the progress of companies participating in Catalyst’s Accelerator Programme with a view to future investment. Based on its proven and successful methodology for fast-growth, Catalyst’s Accelerator Programme, usually lasting between 6 and 12 months, structures and prepares early-stage technology companies for investment. Technology Funding Partnership members are given an inside track to them in order to understand the investment opportunity and give them the confidence that they are well prepared for growth.

Quester joins the four original venture capital investors in Catalyst’s Technology Funding Partnership, Matrix Private Equity Partners, VCF Partners, South West Ventures Fund and Octopus Asset Management and brings the funds collectively managed by them to over £400 million.

“The aim of our Technology Funding Partnership is to create a fast-track to investment for technology innovators,” said Richard Turner, a partner at Catalyst Venture Partners. “The addition of Quester not only further expands the funds available to our clients but also brings in a VC whose sole focus is on early-stage technology companies. The benefits of the approach are already being amply demonstrated by our mutual client Adiuri Systems which addresses the information access market. Their technology – Waypoint - is a radically new approach to accessing and retrieving information from multiple information sources including the deep web, shallow web and company databases.”

About Catalyst Venture Partners
Catalyst Venture Partners was founded in 1999 when a group of technology entrepreneurs got together to create a networked accelerator and specialist corporate finance boutique. The genesis of the company lay in the partners’ experience as private investors who regularly came across technology companies, frequently with great intellectual property, who were seeking funds but who were lacking the necessary commercial expertise and management firepower to be credible to potential sources of finance. Catalyst is based in Bath and works with companies across the South of England and Wales. The Catalyst team bring personal experience from the worlds of running fast growth technology companies, strategy consulting, and venture capital.
