4/15/2005 - Fujitsu Europe Limited announces the launch of the fi-5000N, its new network adapter for document scanners. The fi-5000N enables organisations to make more efficient use of workgroup scanners by allowing up to 32 employees to share each scanner. The fi-5000N connects to the network by Ethernet and can be accessed by any authorised employee via a secure fingerprint recognition system.
Scanning at your fingertips
Once the user identification has been confirmed, individuals gain unrestricted access to all the functions of the relevant scanner model, such as double feed control, auto cropping, deskew and the imprinter. Employees can also set individual user profiles to determine the destination directory, resolution and image improvement functions that will be used to capture, digitise and save any document inserted into the scanner. Individual profiles are automatically triggered once the fingerprint authentication has been activated.
Andrew Cowling, European Marketing Communications Manager Fujitsu Europe Ltd comments: "The Fujitsu fi-5000N offers businesses a reliable, cost effective and secure way to network workgroup scanners - helping to create new scanning efficiencies within the office environment. The launch of the fi-5000N illustrates our commitment to helping our customers make the most of the Fujitsu scanning technology they have invested in and to help speed up administrative tasks.”
Employees can control the workgroup scanners in the normal way from their desktops activating each job as soon as the documents have been inserted in the scanner. This allows each employee to easily archive documents and to establish new scanning criteria when performing special tasks. The scans can be saved as PDF, JPEG or TIFF files and in A4 portrait format. The fi-5000N supports up to 70 images per minute at 200 dpi, weighs less than a kilogramme and consumes just eight watts of power. It can be connected to the network either by 100 Base-TX or 10 Base-T.
Price and availability
The fi-5000N from Fujitsu is available immediately at a recommended retail price of £350 plus VAT.
The f-5000N is compatible with the following Fujitsu scanners: fi-4120C, fi4220C, fi-4120C2, fi4220C2, fi-4530C or fi-5110C document scanner models.
