4/7/2005 - Fastrax Ltd., a leading provider of open and portable OEM GPS Software Development Kit environments and programmable OEM GPS receivers, and Guardian Mobility Corporation, a leading provider of location-aware wireless data communication platforms, announced the inclusion of Fastrax OEM GPS technology in the new Guardian Skytrax(tm) product.
The Guardian Skytrax is a compact and portable wireless GPS unit that transmits flight location data, including altitude, bearing and velocity, in near real time to trace aircraft flight paths with maximum accuracy. The product is targeted to aircraft owners, fleet operators and agencies who need better flight information for increased efficiency, enhanced safety, more accurate billing or legal reasons.
The Skytrax operates independently from aircraft systems and is integrated with Guardian’s web-enabled data management and display servers. The solution provides the most cost-effective and precise real-time flight path tracking system available today. The Skytrax device will be commercially available through Guardian Mobility and its partner network in the second quarter of 2005.
The positioning information for the Skytrax is provided by a programmable Fastrax iTrax03 GPS receiver, one of the smallest 12-channel OEM GPS receivers on the market. The Skytrax application, which acquires, manages and processes the GPS data, was developed using the Fastrax iSuite 3 SDK. The Skytrax delivers data in near-real time over Globalstar’s low-earth orbit satellite network.
“We believe that the Guardian Skytrax represents a new price/performance milestone in the business of flight following and precision aircraft tracking. This milestone is being achieved in a large part by advancements in miniaturization, power management and on-board processing capability provided by the iTrax03 OEM GPS receiver,” said Jean Carr, CEO, Guardian Mobility Corporation.
“The Skytrax by Guardian Mobility is a leading-edge example of applied Fastrax GPS technology. The iSuite 3 Software Development Kit minimizes Skytrax's bill of materials while enabling a very short time to market and bringing significant savings in satellite communication costs. The product's small footprint, high sensitivity and low power consumption enable new lifesaving applications that are easy to use, portable and reliable. The ability to locate and track basically anything, anytime is a true benefit to both government and commercial users, and opens up very promising market opportunities,” said Matti Räty, President, Fastrax Ltd.
Fastrax iTrax03 series 12-channel OEM GPS receivers offer industry-leading benefits in performance, size, power consumption and versatility. Fastrax iTrax03 modules with iSuite navigation firmware enable the implementation of position-aware features into practically any device. The modules are ideally suited for both industrial tracking systems and small battery-operated products such as mobile phones, asset tracking devices, handheld computers and sports accessories.

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite navigation infrastructure funded and controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense, originally developed for U.S. military purposes. GPS provides satellite signals that enable GPS receivers to calculate their exact position and velocity. The GPS infrastructure has three segments. The space segment consists of 24 satellites that orbit the earth every 12 hours. The control segment consists of tracking stations located around the world, with the master control station located at Falcon Air Force Base in Colorado. The user segment consists of GPS receivers and users utilizing the information provided by the system.
