Mercury Enables High-Speed Data Movement for FPGA Applications with FDK 2.0

4/1/2005 - Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY) announced the release of FDK version 2.0, a comprehensive suite of software tools, Mercury intellectual property (IP), and design consultation for Field Programmable Gate Array, or FPGA-based application development. Version 2.0 of the FDK (FPGA Compute Node Developer's Kit) provides developers with all of the necessary interconnect, communications, command and control, memory, and I/O interfaces for flexibility and faster time to deployment. By providing the infrastructure for FPGA-based computing, FDK enables easy integration of application-specific IP into a switch fabric-based multicomputer.

"Integration with high- performance switch fabrics provided by the RACE-on-Chip interconnect, and our bundled design support services, provide our customers with a high-bandwidth interconnect while reducing project risks."

Central to the FDK 2.0 are the new Mercury IP cores for the RACE-on-Chip, or RoC high-bandwidth interconnect (patent pending). RoC extends the multicomputer fabric inside the FPGA to easily access other IP cores such as high-speed DRAM, SRAM, sensor I/O, and system-level fabric interfaces. The innovative RoC architecture enables the dramatic increase in high-speed data movement through the Mercury FCN. Each FPGA application module can use the RoC interconnect to transfer data through DMA Master/Slave (DMS) endpoints to the high-speed switch fabric.

The FDK 2.0 supports Mercury RACE++(R) FPGA-based computing products, including the PCI-based VantageRT(R) FCN and the VME-based MCJ6 FCN. Both hardware products use multi-million gate Xilinx(TM) FPGAs connected to the RACE++ switch fabric to provide integrated acceleration of front-end signal and image processing.
