HPL and Photronics Address Design-for-Manufacturability Challenges

3/1/2005 - HPL Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: HPLA.PK), a leading provider of yield optimization software and service solutions for semiconductor companies, and Photronics (Nasdaq: PLAB), a global leader in photomask technology and services, have announced a strategic alliance to develop tools to facilitate the rapid prototyping and subsequent manufacturing insertion of advanced yield improvement and lithography resolution enhancement technologies.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) tools developed under this strategic alliance will decrease product development time and cost while improving the early yield of advanced processes.

By leveraging HPL and Photronics complementary strengths in test chips, masks and yield improvement, customers will have access to an industry leading, integrated platform for bringing complex lithography solutions into the wafer fab ahead of competitors.

Dr. Christopher J. Progler, Chief Technology Officer of Photronics commented on the Company's collaboration with HPL. "By bringing strategic partnerships and tool development programs like this into our Integrated Lithography Plane (ILPTM) initiative, we expect to accelerate our progress toward making Photronics an indispensable partner to our customers for advanced photomask integration. We look forward to working with HPL on a global scale to realize the full potential of these prototyping and manufacturability tools."

"The ability to gather and analyze yield data in minutes inserts a new level of dynamic feedback into the manufacturing process," stated Cary Vandenberg, president and CEO of HPL Technologies. "With the ability to tap into Photronics' mask-specific expertise and HPL's DFM capabilities, companies can translate their design and fabrication assets into higher yields."

About Photronics
Photronics is a leading worldwide manufacturer of photomasks. Photomasks are high precision quartz plates that contain microscopic images of electronic circuits. A key element in the manufacture of semiconductors, photomasks are used to transfer circuit patterns onto semiconductor wafers during the fabrication of integrated circuits. They are produced in accordance with circuit designs provided by customers at strategically located manufacturing facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America.
