2/28/2005 - TEK Microsystems, Inc. of Chelmsford MA and QinetiQ of Malvern, UK announced the new Quixilica Neptune VXS-1, the first VXS standard product to combine FPGA technology with a dual channel, 2 GSPS (giga samples per second) architecture. Designed as a 6U VME standard payload card for high-speed streaming analog-to-digital applications, Neptune doubles the sampling rate of existing technologies on the market. Applications such as signal intelligence, radar, and electronic warfare can achieve an immediate 2:1 reduction in the number of boards required for each system using Neptune. System design/integration issues and system design costs can be reduced by as much as 50%. TEK Microsystems will integrate Neptune into its advanced signal processing systems and will market the Neptune directly through its distribution channels in the United States.
Applications such as signal intelligence, radar and electronic warfare can now take advantage of both higher signal bandwidth and onboard FPGA processing. Front end pre-processing can be integrated directly into the A/D subsystem, allowing a single 6U card to support higher bandwidth applications while simultaneously reducing the number of back-end processors required for a given algorithm. TEK Microsystems will integrate Neptune into its advanced signal processing and data recording systems and will market Neptune directly through its distribution channels in the USA and Canada.

Neptune VXS-1 is part of the QinetiQ Quixilica VXS family of FPGA based processing hardware which provides a complete range of flexible analog and digital I/O products in the VITA 41.0 VXS form factor. VXS adds a high-speed connector to VME boards to support switched fabric interconnects such as Infiniband, Serial RapidIO and PCI Express with data rates up to 2.5 GB/s for each 6U slot . Neptune couples high performance analog and digital I/O front ends with a scalable FPGA based processing architecture. Memory and inter-processor communications resources have been optimized to address the requirements of very high performance real time digital signal processing applications. Together TEK Microsystems and QinetiQ provide a range of development kits, FPGA cores and software required for maximum development efficiency.

A Xilinx Virtex-II Pro XC2VP70 FPGA is at the heart of the Neptune VXS-1 product and provides the interface between the analog-to-digital converters, memories and I/O resources on the card. Two channels of 2 GSPS, 10 bit resolution analog-to-digital conversion make Neptune the fastest product in its class.
