EDN Adds New Best of 15 Years Category to Innovation Awards

2/22/2005 - Some products that enter the market are technology gems. They withstand the tests of time, market dynamics, and capricious consumers. With that knowledge in mind, editors at EDN magazine, the premier design publication for electrical engineers, have combed through the winning entries of its Innovation Awards program's 15-year history to select the products and technologies that were ground breaking in the past and still demonstrate engineering innovation today.

EDN calls this elite group "the best of the best" and has created a special category in the Innovation Awards to recognize the continuing contribution these innovations have made to the electronics industry.

"Invention, discovery, and technology advancements drive our great industry forward," stated EDN Publishing Director Stephen Moylan. "Innovation occurs every day, all over the world, from small and insignificant findings to large and profound inventions. The 'Best of 15 Years' category recognizes some of the electronics industry's achievements that have influenced product design over many years. This year's program is another way to showcase some of the truly great innovations in the history of our industry."

EDN's editorial team evaluated every winner since the Innovation Awards' first year, 1990, and identified six distinct finalists in categories that include analog ICs, digital-signal processing (DSP), electronic-design automation (EDA), microprocessors, programmable logic, and test and measurement. Interestingly, several of the products in the "Best of" category have evolved into families that have been nominated or won Innovation Awards multiple times and have enjoyed market success for many years.

Maury Wright, EDN's editor at large, noted, "The nominated products all shared some key characteristics that validate their original selection. All of these products have stood the test of time. The winner of the Best of 15 Years category will come from an accomplished group of products representing the dedication and ingenuity of innovative engineering teams."
