QNX and Fabric Embedded Tools Target High-Performance RapidIO Systems

2/9/2005 - QNX Software Systems and Fabric Embedded Tools Corporation announced that the RapidFETTM diagnostic tool is now available for networking and communications systems based on RapidIO and the QNX Neutrino RTOS. Designed to discover and enumerate complex RapidIO designs with the push of a button, RapidFET combines a graphical interface with powerful diagnostic capabilities, allowing engineers to quickly isolate faults and optimize system behavior.

"By leveraging the patented distributed processing of the QNX Neutrino RTOS, RapidIO users can build massively scalable, multiprocessor systems that deliver enormous compute power and fault resilience," said Romain Saha, netcoms segment manager, QNX Software Systems. "With RapidFET, engineers can now streamline the process of configuring these complex systems, eliminating guesswork, reducing integration efforts, and achieving faster time-to-market."

"RapidFET fulfills a key need within the RapidIO ecosystem that, until now, hasn't been addressed," said Harvey Parisien, vice president, Fabric Embedded Tools. "In fact, "RapidFET allows users of the QNX Neutrino RTOS to accelerate all phases of building their RapidIO-based communications systems, from board bring-up and application prototyping to component testing, remote diagnostics, and error logging and documentation."

Pricing and Availability
RapidFET is available now. Customers can use the Fabric Embedded Tools online store to configure a system to their needs, generate a quote, or purchase RapidFET online. Pricing starts at $7500 US.

More about RapidFET
RapidFET is a new kind of diagnostic tool for the embedded community. While fabric-based systems are superior to multi-drop bus topologies in many ways, they are also more complicated. Endpoints need to be initialized and enumerated. Switches need routing tables configured. To keep development costs down, and time-to-market windows short amidst growing system complexity, developers need a new kind of tool.

RapidFET offers a powerful graphical user interface that lets the developer visually interact with a system map. It has the power of a network management tool, yet provides the low-level control of a command-line monitor. RapidFET comes with everything needed to discover and enumerate a system with the push of a button. It supports a number of features, including a processing element register editor, performance monitors, and data generators; it also monitors system health in the background, automatically highlighting system faults. More about the QNX Neutrino RTOS
Designed for high-availability networking elements, the QNX Neutrino RTOS is built on a memory-protected microkernel architecture, enabling dynamic upgrades, fine-grained fault isolation, and rapid error recovery. With native support for both symmetric multiprocessing and transparent distributed multiprocessing, QNX Neutrino also offers massive scalability, allowing networking elements to handle increases in network traffic or services without the need for forklift upgrades. By significantly reducing the complexity and CPU overhead associated with traditional forms of interprocessor communication, QNX distributed processing allows networking equipment manufacturers to quickly realize the exceptional performance and architectural benefits of RapidIO.
